Could someone provide/paste full license agreement text for "NetApp Manageability SDK 5.1" ?

Could someone provide/paste full license agreement text for "NetApp Manageability SDK 5.1" ? I have great trouble trying to locate it.

If not, would someone tell me which versions of this SDK's license text could be substituted for 5.1 ? Would 5.2's licensing work for 5.1 ?

Thank you!

Disparity between Linux system and iSCSI volume

We have observed a large disparity between the reported usage of a number of ISCSI volumes when querying from the NetApp in comparison to when querying from the OS.
In all cases, the NetApp is showing greater usage than the OS. I have included examples of this are below.
Please, can you explain the reason for this disparity and perhaps more crucially what happens when the server tries to write past the point of space availability as reported by the NetApp.

NetApp Output

iscsi_volume_data1

filer::> volume show iscsi_volume_data1
Vserver  Volume Aggregate State Type Size Available Used%

vserver  iscsi_volume_data1 aggr1 online RW 200GB 42.14GB 78%

LUN config:

Name  Size     Avail      Used%

data1  200GB 5.66GB 97.17%

Linux Output

Kerberos authenticated NFSv3 on NTFS with OnTap 9

We are running OnTap 9.4, with a SWM that has NTFS permissions and is shared via CIFS and NFS. There is one special feature of this configuration I having trouble reproducing in a simulator. That is, it’s mountable of CentOS Linux systems as NFS (vers=3) with Kerberos security (sec=krb5).

example /etc/fstab entry:

nas.domain.com:/share /mnt/share nfs vers=3,rw,tcp,soft,sec=krb5,,,, 0 0

Does anyone a similarly configured NetApp that could help me identify what I'm missing in simulator configuration?

To provide some background, our production NetApp was setup a decade ago and while we’re on OnTap 9.4, it still uses DES for Kerberos authentication. We want to move to AES and then drop DES, so I’ve setup a simulator to work through all the steps. The simulator has been helpful, but I am stuck reproducing our Kerberos authentication for NFS shares. Unfortunately, there aren’t any notes describing the production configuration.

NFS configuration is very similar between production and the simulator.

  • We are mapping root and pcuser (guest in production) to a local account on the SVM. This has allowed mounting the SVM root volume, but user access is denied on the simulator.
  • LDAP profile uses Authentication Level: Simple and home grown schema based on RFC-2307. Do I need SASL?
  • Kerberos on Production is joined to AD

Possible Problems:

  • Basic permissions wrong on SVM (e.g. NFSv4 needs 777 for root)
  • Malformed  NFS request (e.g. SPN)
  • Unix UID to NTFS name translation
  • Kerberos system keytab presented to the NetApp
  • User’s Kerberos Ticket

Any other suggestions of what to explore?

ontap 9.5 - different Algorithms for Flash Cache and READS from SSD ? - did anyone notice a change

OK I noticed a change in the way NABOX , Graphana , Harvest displays metrics related to Flash Cache and READS from SSD after CDOT upgrade from 9.4X to 9.5X - 3 different clusters / 3 diff upgrate dates / all display same characteristics - so is it just the way NABOX charts these metrics now or was the Algorithms for Flash Cache and READS from SSD modified in 9.5X ? thanks.

Direct NFS for multiple Esxi

$

I would like the community advise on the correct route for connecting 2 esxi servers to an AFF using sfp+ without the use of a L2 switch. Goal is to have the same NFS datastore mounted on both servers.

Direct connection from each server NIC to a port on each controller. This is to provide redundancy in case of link or controller failure.

Is one subnet possible for multiple ports, so the same mount IP can be used from different hosts, or should the esxi hostfile be used for allowing different mount IP but same DNS name?

I really cant be the first to encounter this scenario and would like to know what is the recommended path.

Thanks

Hi

I received the following alert mgmtgwd.certificate.expiring: A digital certificate with Fully Qualified Domain Name (FQDN) Class2PrimaryCA, Serial Number 85BD4BF3D8DAE369F694D75FC3A54423, Certificate Authority 'Class 2 Primary CA' and type server-ca for Vserver..

The CertPlus cert is expiring shortly can I remove this cert to suppress the alerts as we use an internal CA?

How to solve NFS v4 Problem: Nblade.nfsV4PoolExhaust: NFS Store Pool for Client exhausted

$

Hi,

we have a problem with one of our filers. It is a two node cluster with 8060 nodes.

We are getting from time to time theser errors:

Event: Nblade.nfsV4PoolExhaust: NFS Store Pool for Client exhausted. Associated object type is CLUSTER_NODE with UUID: qqqqqqq.
Message Name: Nblade.nfsV4PoolExhaust
Sequence Number: 12361461
Description: This message occurs when one of the NFSv4 store pools is exhausted.
Action: If the NFS server is unresponsive for more than 10 minutes after this error occurs, contact NetApp technical support.

It seems, that this error doesn't cause any issues, but I would like to get rid of it. You never know, when it would cause an outage.

As I understand this error correctly, it looks like, that there are no client connections left on that node. Is that correct?

Yes, we have several hundreds of VMs, using several different volumes on this node. On the other node, there are lesser client connections...

What is the best way to debug this?

Thank you very much!

Delete SSL Certs?

In more recent versions of OnTap, I do a, 'certificate show' and get 112 results.   I am familiar with the SVM certs, how to renew, and cert management in general, however, it appears the multitude of other certs (UTN-USERFirst-Hardware, etc.) are for AltaVault and cloud services.

Question:  If I don't plan on using AltaVault, what is the consensus on just deleting these certs.

Hi All

We have an On-Tap upgrade comming.

The estate has no internet access so must be fully manual

Ive used Mongoose as a deployment method before but my change to install it has just been blocked by our security guys.

What other methods \ packages are sucessfull (and peoples favorite) at presenting the packages in to On-Tap

Im sure i could use IIS on a windows box but ive never used it to upgrade On-Tap.

Cheers

AFF200 Active/passive, with one SVM on the active node, that also owns the data aggr.

Say I put a SVM lif on the passive node. 10Gbe SFP+. How will that affect performance? How high is the throughput of IC? I am running switchless. The access protocol is nfs.

Thanks

Advanced disk partition for FAS8200

Dear Experts,

We have 4 Disk Shelfs (all SAS) and we would like to use ADP:

My assumptions on ADP: It will partation disk into 2 slices root and data partation, all the Data partation is used to create aggregates, how the spare works? what happens if the disk fails?

what if the new Disk Shelf expanction is done, will it automatically convert disks into ADP?

What are the Limitations and disadvantages fased in the real Production Environments?

Appreciate your Comments...!

Removing a Quorum/Epsilon node from Cluster

$

Hi Team,

We have 8 nodes cdot cluster (9.1) comprising of 2x FAS6290, 2x FAS8080 and 4x FAS9000.

FAS6290 were the initial nodes of this cluster thus holding Epsilon and Quorum of the cluster. Now we need to remove these FAS6290 nodes from the cluster. Could anyone please point to the documentation or procedure to safely remove/decommision these nodes from the cluster. We have already moved all the volumes to other nodes.

Awaiting response as per your earliest.

Regards,

Arsalan.

Deleting stale cluster peers, ONTAP 9.1 & 9.3

$

Hello, friends. I have two clusters who once had SnapMirror relationships, but we're breaking up the band. I deleted the SnapMirror relationships, vserver peers, and cluster peers on the destination side but failed to do anything like that on the source side. Now there's cluster peer relationship and several stale SnapMirror relationships visible on the source side that I can't delete.

  • Attempting to delete the cluster peer results in "Nope: A Snapmirror destination exists in this cluster."
  • "snapmirror list-destinations" on the source cluster results in no entries
  • "snapmirror show" on the source cluster shows a few stale entries where the destination path is on the old destination cluster in paths that no longer exist on the destination cluster.
  • No snapmirror commands on the source cluster work when trying to affect the stale destination paths on the destination cluster

Thankfully some network connectivity still exists, because I was able to recreate the cluster peer relationship. The destination vserver on the destination cluster has since been deleted, however, so further commands to "snapmirror release" on the source cluster still fail because it can't find the destination vserver.

Anyway, that's all quite a lot. Really the goal here is to delete (forcibly, if necessary) the cluster peer relationship. Any ideas to get rid of these stale dependencies?

Thanks!

How to move a snapmirror source volume to another cluster in CDOT

Hello, I'm looking to move a snapmirror source volume from Cluster A to Cluster C without rebalancing the original snapmirror relationship between Cluster A and Cluster B. I've mirrored the volume between Cluster A and Cluster C, broken all the mirrors, and tried to resync the mirror between Cluster C and Cluster B (because they should have a common snapshot), but it's complaining about "Error: command failed: Source Cluster C:mirror_test must match with the source volume in the SnapMirror relationship" I've done this a hundred times in 7 mode, but I cannot find an equivalent CDOT document: https://kb.netapp.com/app/answers/answer_view/a_id/1035002/~/how-to-physically-relocate-a-volume-snapmirror-destination-while-preserving-the

Tags for ontap objects like shares, volumes, qtrees to improve documentation and researches

If I have more than 500 volumes and many shares or exports, it would be more convenient if I could tag some objects with company-internal attributes.

For some objects I can use the option "-comment", but it would be simpler if ontap cli or the system manager by default want to support tagging in a separate field. This makes it easier for me to research my surroundings.

To recreate one and only one aggr on same disks?

$

For some reasons, we need to recreate the one and only one data aggregate on several nodes. Aggregates have either root-data or root-data1-data2 configurations. We could have a shelf of disks for staging purpose, moving data from that data aggr to this staging aggr, and then destroy / recreate that data aggr, and finally move the data back.

My question: Since root aggr is using root partitions on multipel disks, how could I restore all partition configurations back to that data aggregate when I recreate the aggr and before I move data back? or, I have to manually create partitions and also ownership?

Or, What is your recommendation?

Dear Experts,

I have a case about SNMP errors.

the version is 9.5P1

Running the following command

event destination modify -name traphost -snmp
gives following error:
Error: command failed: The destination traphost cannot include an SNMP field because it is assigned to event pvif.alllinksdowntrap and this event does not support SNMP trap.

Document BR15038 already has been tried

this KB was already tried with no success: Error when removing SNMP trap hosts on clustered Data ONTAP

Thank you in advance.

ontap upgrade two major version on the same time

$

My current Ontap version is 9.1P5.

I want to upgrade it to be ontap 9.5P2.

According to upgrade advisor, I need to upgrade it to be 9.3 first.

Therefore, on the same night, I will upgrade ontap from 9.1P5 to 9.3P12 and then 9.5P2.

As I know that, after i upgrade it to 9.3P12, there are several firmware will be update automatically if the version in your cluster is older than the firmware that is bundled with the ONTAP upgrade package.

They are BIOS, Flash Cache, SP, Disk, and Disk shelf.

My question here is

Do I need to wait for all those firmware upgrade completed and then upgrade it from 9.3P12 to 9.5P2 or I can continue to upgrade it to 9.5P2 after veified the version - 9.3P12 and HA status, aggregate, and lifs are home port?

9.3P12 release on 5/27/2019

9.5P2 release on 3/24/2019 which is earlier then 9.3P12.

Does it matter for my upgrade ?
