Windows mixed migrate

$

Hi,

Customer have Windows server with CIFS and NFS share at the same time, that's mean file could allow Windows and UNIX client read/write at the same time.

Customer want to migrate Windows server data to new NetApp, any method or tools could migrate?

Define fpolicy exceptions for individual folders

$

We use the fpolicy configurator (version 1.0 of 2016) to exclude file extensions on SVM's. In the past, we have repeatedly had the requirement that we have to release individual file extensions for certain directories so that users can store files there. So far we have done this (quite elaborately) using the following method: Create a share from the affected directory, then create a new group of file extensions in which the file extension is missing, the file of which is to be stored in the directory. This group is then assigned to the volume in which the directory is located using fpolicy commands. All other volumes of the SVM then get the group with all locked file extensions.
Our question now is: is there an easier way to remove an extension for certain directories? Is there a tool if necessary? I hope I was able to convey our concerns clearly. If necessary, I can also provide our procedure using the commands used.

Create Advance Disk partition on newly add disk

Hi,

My question is regarding Advance disk partition.

1) Can i create one root partition and 1 data partition on newly add disk and put this disk in  spare list of drive ?

2) When we replaced failed Disk enable with advance disk partition used in aggregate , should we create ADP partition on this drive first ? or it will create ADP automatically after the replacement with faulty drives?

Thanks

I'm struggling with powershell. I want to know the space used including snapshot reserve on an aggregate.

FAS 2240-4 bottleneck reading large files

Hi

Hardware:

FAS 2240-4 NetApp Release 8.2.4P6 7-Mode 24*1TB-SATA-Disks, FС 8G

Tell me where is the bottleneck for reading.
Netapp disk system reads a maximum of 200 mb / s

I copy a large zip file of 90 gigabytes, a compressed backup copy of the database.

Copying from LUN on fiber channel 4gbit and further on the local network 10 gigabits to a RAID 0 server

I would like to have a speed of ~ 300 mb / s

The disk system cannot handle writing, it shows sysstat well, but I don’t see any bottlenecks with reading

NVRAM bottleneck ???

ONTAP System Manager 9.7 - Storage Efficiency Gains where are you?

$

Hello,

How I miss ONTAP 9.6 GUI. I just cannot understand what happened at NetApp to change System Manager in such a dramatic way. I am having trouble almost every time I need to find basic information on 9.7 "new experience".

Possibly the problem is on me, but even so, I cannot believe.

I would like to see storage efficiency gains for a specific volume. Where is it?

Regards,

Pedro Rocha.

Forwarding logs to another dervice

We want to send logs to another device.  Per instructions on the link below, which interface would the logs be sent out from.  We have 2 controllers (FAS2650).  I am guessing its the cluster management interface.  Please confirm.

https://docs.netapp.com/ontap-9/index.jsp?topic=%2Fcom.netapp.doc.dot-cm-sag%2FGUID-9F8EB0DF-12F5-4DA9-B14B-34487DE3717D.html

cluster1::> cluster log-forwarding create -destination 192.168.123.96 -port 514 -facility user

cluster1::> cluster log-forwarding create -destination 192.168.123.98 -port 514 -protocol tcp-encrypted -facility user

Also, what kind of events would it send? Would it be just CIFS access related events?

Thanks,

TT

Hide dedup savings in windows explorer

$

Hello,

we are using ontap 9.5 and provide cifs shares to windows computers.

I want the users to see the real data usage of their files without deduplication. For example:

The user is using 10 tb of data and deduplication reduces this to 8 tb. The volume in this example has the size of 9 tb.

So in windows explorer the user can see the mounted share as a 9 tb volume and 8 tb used space. But he should see the full 10 tb of his data as used storage.

Is there any option or possibility to show him the used data in windows explorer?

Thanks.

When adding new disks to an aggregate can all disks be used for data?

We have aggr1_Node03 that contains 22 disks (with 2 hot spares).  Those disks are split into 2 RAID groups (each with 11 disks) and there are 2 parity disks per raid group.  If we added another DS212C with the same size drives that are currently in the aggregate, can we just increase each RAID group size to 17 disks and add 6 more data disks to each group or will we be required to also add more parity and spare disks?

Node Managment failing ping to cluster

Hi,

I have a Management Node on my system that is sending pings to a cluster interface that isn't completing the ping and being directed out to the network infrastructure. I only know about it as its showing in that switch's logs sent to the syslog server.

2020-06-26 11:58:39 Local2.Info B1560-38A-R1R3-MGT1-INT 5880379: Jun 26 16:58:38.357 UTC: %SEC-6-IPACCESSLOGDP: list ACL-TRANSIT-MGMT-IN denied icmp 10.2.21.103 -> 169.254.206.17 (0/0), 19 packets

Its as if it cant hit the 169 cluster ip and being directed out with the zero route.

But if I run some basic ping tests and interface checks the system seems to be ok.

NetApp NDMP backup with commvault  consuming more snap reserve space  for  large size volume and volumes that are undergoing frequent block level changes . Current protection is NFS =1 hr and iSCSI=3 days.

what would be ideal snapshot policy time to apply to handle write intensive application?

Can we use auto delete for snapshot? which that impact on backup?

Vol Dedup is not enabled. planning to enable this. hoping to reduce snapshot size.

on my 7-mode lab system i got this message: BGNA108061:monitor.shelf.warning:warning]: Fault reported on disk storage shelf attached to channel 0a. Check fans, power supplies, disks, and temperature sensors

And also the fault LED is on at shelf ID 75

In reference to this kb article (https://kb.netapp.com/Advice_and_Troubleshooting%2FData_Storage_Systems%2FFAS_Systems%2FDisk_shelf_reports_the_critical_warning__%22non-critical_status%3B_Backplane_VPD_SEEROM_corrupt_or_unreadable.%22)

my results are:

BGNA108061*> sasadmin expander_cli 0a.75 "vpd midplane_compare"
Mismatch detected
VPD 16 - 0180: 01 01 02 01 01 01 01 85 02 01 01 01 01 01 02 01
VPD 17 - 0180: 01 01 02 01 01 01 01 05 02 01 01 01 01 01 02 01

midplane_compare test completed. There were mismatches

At the kb-article there is a reference to netapp support but the system is a lab-system and out of support.

Can anyone advise me how to fix vpd mismatch?

Thanks in advance for your help

bye Udo

Encrypted volume and unreachable external key manager

We're in a bit of a pickle.

In our lab, we have a NetApp appliance running ONTAP 9.6.    It was integrated with an external key manager several months ago that was reconfigured.   There's one encrypted volume on the appliance that we don't care about.  The appliance can no longer communicate with the key manager, but we've loaded new certificates on it to be able to re-establish communication.

This is essentially the same situation that you'd encounter if you let a certificate expire, so I'm following those instructions here:  https://docs.netapp.com/ontap-9/index.jsp?topic=%2Fcom.netapp.doc.pow-nve%2FGUID-D457F0DF-420A-4FE7-A782-040878F0D000.html

When I attempt to remove the server as instructed, I'm told I can't because there's an encrypted volume.

SAT-NVE::*> security key-manager external remove-servers -vserver SAT-NVE -key-servers 10.106.189.27:5696

Error: command failed: The key server at "10.106.189.27" contains volume encryption keys that are currently in use and not available from any other configured key server.

When I attempt to delete the encrypted volume, I can't do that because it can't reach the external key manager.

SAT-NVE::*> volume delete -vserver SAT-01 -volume EncryptedVM

Error: command failed: One or more key servers are unavailable for Vserver "SAT-NVE". Use the "security key-manager external show-status -vserver SAT-NVE"  command to check the status of the key servers. Verify that the network configuration is correct.

The -force attribute didn't help.

How do I get out of this loop?

Thanks.

Jane

Hi Everyone..

Actually we have FAS2240 with Data Ontap 8.1.4P1 7-Mode and Filer-A had failed. So we have replaced with New one.

But unfortunately forgot to swap Flash Card from failed filer to new filer.

In result the New Filer is having Ontap 8.2P3 7-Mode has been configured that  newer version then we have in out system.

So system is running but Takeover feature has been disabled due to ontap mismatch.

strga> cf status

strgb is up, takeover disabled because of reason (version mismatch)

strga has disabled takeover by strgb (version mismatch)

WAFL log: Local 396 Partner 334

        RAID: Local 12 Partner 11

RAID NVRAM: Local 42 Partner 33

VIA Interconnect is up (link up).

So now we have two options here, one need to upgrade Filer-B to 8.2P3 or downgrade Filer-A to 8.1.4P1.

But to perform both we need those Ontap Firmware. we have tried to search Netapp Support but unable to find any version blow 8.5

So I need help here if someone pls share link to download above version will be really helpful to me

Thank You

Hi,

I have a CIFS share which usage size has been reduced from 16tb to 10tb.  If I resize the volume to 12tb from 16tb, will I get that 4tb back? Can it be done on a live share?

Thanks

Hi,

Is there any Netapp or other tool to generate  generic workload performance report based on capacity (SAS & SSD) for FAS storage system .

resize root volume

Can you resize the root volume like any other volume?  We are looking to forward the audit logs to an external device and was told it will take up some space if we turn it on.

From the OnCommand Manager it shows.

cm_svm_root volume (shows as volumes on SVM).

Thanks,

TT
