On a NFS datastore, we only see <5ms latency, but on VM guest, 80ms+ latency. This seems not a filer issue to me.
However, what steps I should take to investigate and find out the root cause? eith on the filer side, VMware side, or both?

We have perofrmance issue.

How to retain 32-bit snapvault snapshots when migration to ONTAP 9?
Hello,
For a customer we are preparing the 7-mode systems for transition to ONTAP 9. Almost every aggregate is 64-bit with 64-bit snapshots, no problem.
There was just one 32-bit aggregate (SnapVault destination with 1 year retention of backups) and containing 32-bit snapshots. We have converted it into 64-bit but there are still 32-bit snapshots with the 1-year retention.
The customer wants to keep the backups but they cannot be migrated via 7-MTT 3.0.
Is there another way to migrate those snapshots? I was thinking you create new SnapVault replication of the current 32-bit snapshots but that will cost a lot of effort to realize. Maybe someone have a better idea?
It is not possible to keep the 7-mode system “in life” for one year so we need another solution for this.
I hope someone have a good alternative?

Statistic Lun Show issue

I've got really strange issue. I have two LUNs in single igroup.I can check the stastistics for one LUN, but not for the other one. Both LUNs are online, mapped, created in the same way, even at around the same time. Example:

FAS3220 Dual Chassis HA interconnect error
Have a 2-node FAS2554 running ONTAP 9. I see this error message in the event log a couple of times an hour from both nodes:
csm.sessionFailed: Cluster interconnect session (req=uwfclu1c-01:dblade, rsp=uwfclu1c-02:dblade, uniquifier=08053e1f8099756e) failed with record state ACTIVE and error CSM_CONNABORTED
The error message appears to be benign so I'm just wondering where this is coming from.

64-bit space qualifying scanner status?
Hello all. We just ugraded from 8.0.5 to 8.1.4P7 in order to convert aggrs from 32-bit to 64-bit without having to add additional disks. Upon completion, the upgrade process automatically initiated the 64-bit space qualifying scanner. The 64-bit Aggregates Overview and Best Practices TR says to "Verify the prequalification scanner has finished running before triggering the 64-bit expansion.". But I haven't found anything indicating how to monitor the scanner status and verify that it's completed. I do see in the messages file however that a message is logged everytime the scanner finishes with a volume. Is there a better way to check the scanner status other than simply looking for a log message for each volume?

Fas2240-4 All Drives show failed
First of all I'm really new to NetApp and have some basic questions.
We got a used Fas2240-4 with two DS4246 shelves for testing purposes. I'm supposed to learn with this system and figure out what I can to see if this is something we want to move forward with. I have the drawers cabled according to the diagrams that I can find. Currently don't have the system licensed and am just working in maintenance mode. When I do a sysconfig it shows all the drives but they are all in failed status. When I do a disk show then it doesn't show any drives. I tried to unfail a drive but it says there are no drives to unfail.
What would cause all drives to show as failed under sysconfig?
Why don't any of them show up outside of sysconfig?

guaranteed performance using storage Qos?
Hi,
OnTAP 8.3GA running on FAS8040HA
I am learning how to use storage QoS but from what i can tell, it can only throttle on storage objects. I am looking for a way to guarantee the minimum for an object instead of imposing limits. Is it possible? It seems to be true QoS should have a way to guarantee the minimum to ensure quality of service.

Upgrade FAS2552 from 7-Mode to CDOT 8.3.2
Anyone knows where I can find the documentation to upgrade from 7-Mode to 8.3.2.
My current FAS2552 was downgraded (previous storage admin) to 7-mode about a year ago, but now i am charged with moving to CDOT. I already migrated the data to another CDOT filer.
I did several searched online but no luck, all documentation point me to 7MTT which is no help, i actually need to upgrade the filer from 7-mode to CDOT.
Also the download page has an option to download the 8.3.2P5 but it looks like the upgrade path is from CDOT 8.2 not from 7-Mode

Monitoring changes to CIFS share permissions and NFS Export Policies
I'm trying to find a solution to monitor any changes to permissions on CIFS shares as well as any changes to Export Policies for NFS in CDOT 8.3. Something as simple as an informational email would suffice. Is CIFS auditing the way this would be done for CIFS? For Export Policies are there any options?

Error while covering from 7-Mode to Clustered
Hello Everyone
I am in the process of converting a FAS2552 from 7-Mode to Clustered. After changing the boot env clustered variable to true and go into the boot menu option 4 to wipe and initialise I am getting the error
"Warning: Data ONTAP has detected an attempt to switch the value of bootarg.init.boot_clustered. Usage of this boot argument requires Technical Support assistance.
If this was an accidental change, ensure bootarg.init.boot_clustered matches the root aggregate of the node."
The file just halts at that point.
I came across an article that is point me to a KB 2018512. But it seems I dont have permission to access same.

Reversing snapmirror between C Mode and 7 Mode
I have a volume level snapmirror which source is on 7 Mode and DR is C-Mode (We are in the middle of product upgrade). In this scenario, Just wonder, can I perform snapmirror reversal to change replication from C Mode to 7 Mode? If so, how can I do it?
Source (7 Mode) is FAS6080 and running 8.1.3 and DR (C Mode) is FAS8080 and running 8.3.1.

Exchange 2007 and Snap Manager Exchange

I have a single Exchange server 2007 connected to Netapp. We daily run the backup using Snapmanager for exchange 6.0. I run Daily backup,weekly,mothly and Yearly.
While restoring it i cannot see my yealry and monthly backups.

problem creating cifs shares via MMC on NetApp cDOT Release 8.3.1

the team who create our CIFS shares no longer have access to do this since we migrated vfilers to cDOT NetApp Release 8.3.1 from 7-mode.
They are not domain admins so I set them up as superusers under the relevant SVM:
set advanced
cifs superuser create -vserver VS1 -domain LIVE -accountname testuser
I believe adding a user as a superuser should allow them to: "Note: Data ONTAP 8.3 allows the administrator to create, modify and delete CIFS shares"
Also, the command to display superusers doesn't appear to work in 8.3.1 _ I haven't found an equivalent yet:
vserver cifs superuser show
Error: "superuser" is not a recognized command
