fcp queries not possibe

hello all

I have a working FC setup with NetApp A200 ONTAP 9.8 and a Cisco MDS 9148S.

Storage and servers are logged in successfully, zoning is also there and the server can access its LUN. All good.

ntap01::> vserver fcp nameserver show -lif fc01-a

Warning: Unable to list entries for kernel on node "ntap01-01": FC transport operation timed out.

Error: show failed: FC transport operation timed out

The same error occurs with:

vserver fcp topology show

netw fcp topology show

When trying to ping one of the FC initiators, I also get an error:

ntap01::network fcp zone> fcp ping-initiator show -lif xxx -wwpn xxx

  (vserver fcp ping-initiator show)

                            Node       Logical   Ping        Extended

Vserver   WWPN              Name       Interface Status      Status

          xxxxx

                            ntap01-01

                                       fc01-a    zone-info-not-available

Any idea what might be wrong?

Has anyone seen any errors like this while the whole communication/setup was working fine?

Any help or hints are very appreciated 🙂

ONTAP Downgrade procedure

Hello all,

A customer asked is scheduling ONTAP upgrade from 9.3 to 9.7.

He generated the associated upgrade advisor and has some question regarding some of the steps.

It's mentionned that they need first to downgrade from 9.7Px to 9.6P9 before 9.3P17 (page 9 of the enclosed documents).

The step is not clearly described into the documentation.

How do we do this step?

Do we need to install the 9.6P9 version, change the images and system node revert-to -node nodename -version 9.6P9 ?

During the upgrade, ONTAP will be upgraded to 9.5P17 first and then to 9.7Px

Why are we not doing the revert to 9.5P17?

Thank you so much for help on this.

SSD Scrubbing on Netapp AFF systems

Hello. I'd like to understand deeper about SSD scrubbing. Tried to read up online. Understand the concept and stuff but couldn't find enough information about how exactly Netapp handles it.

We have a netapp with two aggregates that are fully flash. The one with more volume count, more IO load seems to be not complaining on the AIQUM. It shows up as green but the other aggregate with more free space, lesser volumes compared to the former and less IO overall seems to show up with a warning symbol that its performance level is over loaded.

This looked strange and the only difference I could see is that the later had its scrubbing schedule run more than 6 months ago, the former ran last month. Nothing else seem different. Any help advice on how to navigate and find the problem would be much appreciated. Thanks!

arl from fas8020 to fas8300

Hello,

I am planning to perform head upgrade from fas8020 to fas8300. but cluster ports in fas8300 are 100GbE but fas8020 are 10GbE.

I checked old posts and found the same question and post owner asked to use ha interconnect port which is support 10GbE. (https://community.netapp.com/t5/ONTAP-Discussions/arl-from-a300-to-a400/m-p/159922) My question is same but I am wondering there is no information about this issue. The KB I'm using, is saying fas8020 support upgrade to fas8300 but the is no additional information about this. (For example; fas8020 to fas8300 can temporarily use ha interconnect for cluster connection)

Thanks,

Create new user with a new role

Hi,

In the storage when I want to register a new user, only 4 roles appear (admin, none, readonly and backup) but I need a user role so that I only have the possibility of creating / deleting and modifying quotas.

I have seen the following information to create new roles

https://docs.netapp.com/ocsc-41/index.jsp?topic=%2Fcom.netapp.doc.ocsc-isg%2FGUID-D39A6ACE-D69D-4470-ABE4-A63A7803E880.html

but I have not found any option -cmddirname of type quota, is there that possibility?

Thanks,

ADP drive sizes

hello everyone

I want to know how to determine the size of each partition of a disk, is there any logic? Because it seems that the data partitions are different for different types of drives

I  just  try calculating  usable space instead of fushion,so I want to kow the principles of calculation

Network ports down

Hi, I have the following problem. Our Netapp worked without any problems until recently.Filer 2 can no longer be reached via the management port for a short time and the error message (all links down) and (switching to e0d) appears on filer 1.Does anyone have any idea why that is all of a sudden?

Many Thanks.

NetApp DR, SVM-DR or Volume SnapMirror

We are on the stage to set up DR for our production NetApp. we know we have choices between volume snapmirror or SVM-DR. as I know, the SnapMirror will replicate volumes, it is available for failover or failback. the SVM-DR will replicate all SVM include config and volumes to DR site for failover in case. Can some one share your experience on more details on advantages and disadvantages on each?

On this moment, we will more focus on CIFS volumes. we are on 9.7P6.

thanks.

Low deduplication ratio

Looks we are getting low deduplication ratio without snapshots. it is about 1.3 to 1.5. We have 70% SAN and 30% of CIFS/NFS data. We are using AFF300 on 9.7P6, with cross volume deduplication and compression enabled. We also have aggregate level encryption enabled. Not sure if it is normal or not. Please share your experience and ways to improvements.

thanks.

Cluster Peer Availability "Partial" After IP Removal

I am decommissioning two nodes in a four node NetApp cluster. The cluster is a SnapMirror destination and source.  I edited the cluster peer relationships on each peer cluster and removed the IP's for the nodes being decommissioned. I then disabled and deleted the two intercluster LIFs for the two nodes being decommissioned. For good measure, I removed the intercluster ports on these two nodes from the broadcast domain

Replication is still working, but for some reason the System Manager GUI shows "Availability" as "Partial" for each peer cluster. Similarly, at the command prompt, when I enter "cluster peer health show", there are still entries for the two nodes that are being decommissioned. Any ideas on how to clean up the cluster database and tell it to get rid of these IP's fully?

Changing to a new snapshot policy

I have a snapshot policy applied to one of my volumes. I created a new snapshot policy and I want to change the volume to use this one instead.

Do I simply edit the volume to use the new policy and that's all? Or do I need to do anything else, like delete the existing snapshots first so it starts clean? I feel like the existing snapshots may be associated with the existing policy and maybe they would not be expired/deleted since the existing policy is no longer applied.

MirrorAndVault not keeping destination snapshots?

Hello:

I have a MirrorAndVault snapmirror policy, with the defaults set to keep 7 daily and 52 weekly snapshots.  However, the destination volume only has the snapmirror created snapshots, despite the fact that dakly and weekly snapshots exist at the source volume.  I have the feeling that this is something stupid in the setup, but for the life of me I can't see it.  Can anyone explain this?  This is 9.5P6 (both sides).

Thanks...

Bill

ONTAP 9 cli outputs without hitting enter key

Hi Gurus,

I'm operating and managing ONTAP 9.7 storages and executes some CLI commands in maintenance works.

When CLI command outputs multiple lines, ONTAP interrupts the output and asks and show below,
Press <space> to page down, <return> for next line, or 'q' to quit...

Are there any methods or options to have all output without interrupting?
Because to check the storage health and status in normal operations, I should execute more than 15 CLI

commands in a row and have the outputs without hitting enter key.

kind regards

Presenting many LUNs in simple way

Hello everyone,

This is my first post in NetApp Community, and i want to ask a question.

So, right now i`m doing a POC Scenario using NetApp AFF A300 with 133 LUNs and will be presented to Solaris Host, my question is. Could we present those 133 LUNs to Solaris in 1 simple way / 1 time execution all those LUNs can be presented maybe using script or something.

Any suggestions are welcome.

Thank you.

Rebuilt root aggr

Hello Team,

I have a FAS220 with an external SAS shelf with 24 disks DS2246, this is a single controller, we need to add it and rebuilt the root aggr to have 2 root aggr.

Something that we're thinking is performing option 4 on the boot menu, however, the SAS shelf won't be clean we will be taking out the shelf, then after we finished with the clean process we pretend to put it back again the existing shelf to the new HA and hopefully, everything will be working as expected.

What do you think guys?

Seek for Python Script example(Role Swap-Snapmirror) of ONTAP Select 9.8 API

Hi Mates/Experts,

We have deployed ONTAP Select 9.8 to run the sync mode between two sites instead of VMAX.

Currently, will need deploy automatic role swap and DR drill between two sites with ONTAP Select API.

Please help to provide Python Script example for DR failover/failback.

Or where can we find such related resource.

Thanks in advanced.

Alex
