Hi there!

In cDOT 8.3.2P4 the following happens:

When deleting  files or folders in a CIFS-Share they reappear when deleting them. After some time the files or folders vanish completely.

What can I do, to get rid of deletes files immediately?

I do not notice any conspicuously in CIFS options.

Thanks in advance.

cDot 8.3.2P5 SnapManager 7.1.3P1 Expanding LUN Error

Hey community,

i just have a little question for you. I tried to expand a LUN on our AFF 8040 cDot system, but the operation failed. I've got the following error message by the SnapDrive e-mail notifier:

Header:

-----------

Data ONTAP LUN Manager Auto Notification - LUN event : Error

Text:

------

LUN Manager Event Detail:

Computer Name: xxxxxx

Event ID: 125

Type: Error

Category: LUN event

Description: Failed to expand the LUN by 51189 MB. Failure in expanding NTFS file system on the disk.

LUN Name = Daten

Storage Path = /vol/xxxxxx_data/xxxxxxx_E/ Protocol Type = HTTP Storage System Name = SVM12

Error code : Error 0x6d occured. Description is not found.

Here some more details:

Storage system:  AFF8040HA (cDot 8.3.2P5)

Server system:    Windows Server 2008R2 (latest patches)

SnapDrive:          SnapDrive 7.1.3P1

Do you have any ideas, where's the problem? Could this might be the problem, that it isn't possible to expand the LUN more than its 10x size?

Thanks for helping.

I have a cluster running OnTap 8.3.2

The cluster and node management network interfaces are active

and I can ssh to them.

The web services are up and running

Cluster::> sys ser web show
  (system services web show)
 External Web Services: true
                Status: online
    HTTP Protocol Port: 80
   HTTPs Protocol Port: 443
         TLSv1 Enabled: true
         SSLv3 Enabled: false
SSL FIPS 140-2 Enabled: false

I am using I.E. 8

When I attempt to access the filer via the GUI (using https),

using the cluster IP I get the security certificate error,

click continue to this website

The URL is https://nnn.nnn.nnn.nnn/sysmgr/SysMgr.html

The screen stays white and I am not prompted for the credentials.

Any ideas ?

Reset admin Password on Clustered ONTAP

$

Recently I had to reset the admin password for an array that was not in production.  The problem was it would give me the nmessage "Waiting for GiveBack"  but since I didn't know the admin password I couldn't give the command on the active controller.  So It was a little challenging because of the clustering.

This is how I ended up doing it in the end.

1. Connect a serial cable to one controller 1 and verify it was prompting for login prompt.

2. Power off both Power supplies

3. Power on one (or both Power supplies)

4. When Controller 1 says "Press Control C" to stop boot process (Or something like that.) then Press Control-C.   This will take you to the "Loader-A" menu.  (This is needed because you have to pause the bootup of this controller.  Otherwise when you chose option 3 on Controller2,  Controller 1 will be finished booting and controller 2 will hang at "Waiting for Giveback")

5. Now move your serial cable to the other Controller.  (You have to do this quickly)

6. Wait until this controller says Press Control-C for Boot menu.  -> then press Control-C

7. Then chose option 3 for "reset Password"

8. It will then think for a while and then give you an option to reset the password.

9. Then it wil finish booting this controller and prompt for login.  Login with your new password.

Then move your serail cable back to controller 1.  At the "Loader-A" prompt type autoboot.  It will come up to a screen "waiting for GiveBack"  At this point on Controller 2 you can issue the give back command.

FYI:  The admin password is synced to all controlers in the cluster so you do NOT need to change it on both controllers.

I think you will be done at this time.

Have Fun,

Carl

Hello,

I installed a metrocluster AFF8040 2-nodes.

is it possible to configure the metrocluster to negociate a switchover if some network ports are offline ?

For Example, e0a and e0b are used for NFS, and if this ports are down, so a switchover is negociated.

Thank You.

I know this might sound trivial but ...

I want to configure boot from SAN for a Windows host. Do I need FC license on the NetApp storage?

CDOT: display cifs sessions by share

$

Hello everybody,

maybe one of you people can help me.

Previously in 7-mode we could use "cifs sessions *" to display any open session, this list contained information about which share was open.

In CDOT "vserver cifs sessions show" does not contain this information, even when run with "-instance". Instead the information about which share (or volume, would be okay, too!) a the sessions are opened to is only available in the "vserver cifs sessions file show" command. Unfortunately there I cannot get information about client IP.

I've discovered this issue because I was looking for a method to see which client IPs are connected to a certain share (or volume, would be okay, too!).

How can I do this from CLI?

This is not working:

  1. "vserver cifs session show -instance" -  It displays client IP, but no information about which share the session is connected too.
  2. "vserver cifs session file show -fields hosting-volume,share" - This on the other hand displays volume and share, but not the client IP.

Yes, both commands present me with the connection ID from which I could cross-reference to the client IP - excuse my french - wtf?! Why is this not possible through a regular command - or am I just overlooking something?

Please help, my Windows admins would be forever grateful to you and your heirs,

KG

Enable read reallocation on a volume?

$

Hi,

We're having some read latency issues on a particular volume in our environment. We can see both random- and sequential reads on the particular volume. Block size also seems to be bigger than on our other NFS datastores in our environment.

I have enabled read reallocation with the space-optimized option on the volume. Question: Do I also need to run a manually reallocation on the volume or will the volume start the reallocation in the background? Reallocate show doesn't show anything, only "This table is currently empty".

Environment:

Ontap 8.3.1

VMware vSphere 6

Can't ssh to the cluster / Can't access my cluster...

I installed NetApp for Windows 8.3.2 Sim on Vmware Player.   I was able to create a second node and join them.  From my vmware player, I can see both nodes in the cluster and run CLI commands from the CLI inside the VMware Player.

HOWEVER I cannot

1.) ssh to the cluster via putty, nor can I

2.) Access my cluster (cant discover or add) to the NetApp SYSTEM MANAGER 3.1.2 that I installed on my Windows desktop.  System Manager doesn't find. it.  I cannot ping the IP either from a CMD prompt.

I think it's a simple fix, but I am banging my head against the wall for a fix.

Can you help me troubleshoot please.   The Custer IP that is owned by the vmware is 192.168.X.20, which I set up per the NetApp 8.3.2 installation and set up guide instructions.  I am a newbie to NetApp, so keep that in mind please.  Thank you .      AZPMTECH@YAHOO.COM.

We are runnng a production environment in a large IT organization, so I need to get this configured as soon as practical please.  I can provide production (purchased) SN# offline if required.  Thank you for your insight.

Question Regarding Total Latency and Throughput of Disk

$

I want to monitor Disk Performance for NETAPP and I am using ONTAP API. I need the following performance metrics from ONTAP API:

1)Total Latency for Disk:

We can monitor Total latency using "Operation_latency" field for Cluster-Mode Disk Performance data, but How to calculate Total Latency for 7-Mode Disk Performance data? Can we calculate it by using read/write latency? If yes then can you please give me an idea how to calculate?

2) Read Throughput and Write Throughput for Disk Performance:

Same as above, we can monitor Throughput using fields (read_data_rate and write_data_rate) for Cluster-Mode but how to calculate it for 7-Mode disk performance data?

We have read_blocks_rate and write_blocks_rate but I have tried to calculate Throughput using both this field(by multiplying block size) but it is not matching with that data_rate.

Scheduled backup jobs ar failing

Hi. Two weeks ago I rebuilt our NetApp FAS3270 8.1.4P9 7-mode.  The purpose was to remove disk shelves to be reused at DR.  By rebuilt I mean that I destroyed all aggrs, moved vol0 to a remaining aggr, removed disk shelves, reboots, and all looks good now.  This filer was then going to be reused for OSSV target, as it was previously.  I recreated volumes and shares (everyone full control).  I ran snapvault start -S "remote_win_serverSmiley Very Happy:folder" FILER:/vol/volume/qtree.  The initial job ran successully but hasn't run since.  Note that I have not done anything with the OSSV client on the remote Windows Servers.  I have a hundred or so of them that previously backed up to this filer but are not working now.  Below are the snapvault options.  I think they are right.  I don't have support on this filer anymore so I'm depending on Google and this Community.  Please let me know what you think.

CSRNETAPP03> options snapvault
snapvault.access             host=all
snapvault.enable             on
snapvault.lockvault_log_volume
snapvault.nbu.archival_snap_default on
snapvault.ossv.compression   off

NDMP backup - no data transfer / backup goes idle

Networker 8.1.3.4

Netapp C mode FAS8020 (ONTAP 8.3)

At present we are backing up netapp volumes using NDMP protocol from a single aggregate with no issue. recently we have added a new aggregate and a volume to it, which we are now trying to take backup and so we have added the new same to save set.

Once the backup job is triggered, it creates a NDMP session within netapp system as expected, but stays idel with no data transfer there-after.

There are no difference with networker client configuration. Onyy difference are the newly added volume is from the newly created aggregate and it is owned through second node. as this a C mode setup this should not make a difference I guess.

please advise
