Hi,

I have Netapp 3220 Box and It has 7 mode 8.1.

When i am trying to rsync by mounting in linux box or taking backing using netback mounted on linux as a nfs share. It is taking 5 to 6 days to complete 1.4TB size disk. I dont know why this much of the time it is taking time.

We have 10G uplink for network data connectivity.

I might have done wrong configuration. Please advice to fix this issue.

Below is the share

/vol/home1 -sec=sys,rw,root=10.193.180.0/24:10.193.182.0/24:10.193.184.0/22,nosuid

and Below is the snapshot of the  performance. and Please let me know any thing i need to provide info

Read performance using DD

1024+0 records in
1024+0 records out
1073741824 bytes (1.1 GB) copied, 0.888529 seconds, 1.2 GB/s

Write performance using DD

[root@vncin56 ~]# dd if=/dev/zero of=/home1/home1.img bs=1G count=1 oflag=dsync
1+0 records in
1+0 records out

Quota and fpolicy

Hello All..

I have about 300 directories under my qtree's.

Since almost all directories are for different customers, I Woul like to use quota and fpolicy for each directory.

Is there a way to do that? Even if it is necessary to integrate with some product.

View more than 64 snapshots on "previous versions" on Windows 7-2012R2

Hi guys,

we noticed that we can only see 64 snapshots under the tab "restore recent versions" on CIFS volumes where we have Snapshots enabled.

But on an old 2003 Server we can see ALL snapshots.

I tried adding the registry key from the folllowing post to a Win7 and 2012R2 machine, but that did not change anything for me (also after rebooting):

https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windowsserver/en-US/27c028af-fb8b-4d19-a935-496dda1e05c6/previous-versions-displays-only-the-64-oldest-previous-versions-for-vista-win7-2008-2008r2-2012?forum=winservergen

Another blog suggested to turn off SMB2, but I will not consider this at all.

Any suggestens?

Hot Unplug Shelves but need to move disks first - HELP!

Hello,

I need to move all my SATA shelves from our 7 mode system to CDOT. However, we do not have enough swing kit to do both 7 mode controllers aggr's at once.

So, I want to migrate all data from 1 filer's aggr and then destroy that aggr, hot unplug the shelf and then rinse and repeat.

BUT,

2 of the SATA shelves have 12 disks each assigned to each controller.

So,

Is there a way to move the disks between controllers \ aggr's.

e.g. remove disk 1 from node 1 aggr 1 then remove ownership and assign to node 2. Whilst simultaneously removing disk 1 from node 2 aggr 1

Is it the disk replace command? or is there an easier way?

Get-NcQtree

Hello,

I'm having diffifulty removing/deleting Qtrees with the Powershell Toolkit.  I'm using the DataONTAP v3.3.0 toolkit and OnTap NetApp Release 8.3.2.  The following command returns an error stating You cannot delete qtree "". and if I try and use wildcards or "where-object" statements I get the same error:

Remove-NcQtree -Vserver $prodsvm -Volume $volume -Force -Confirm:$false ($ statements are obviously being declaired above).

This does work on an individual basis if I specify the full path (ex. /vol/volname/qtreename).  Does anyone have any ideas on how to delete all qtrees for a volume whether they're populated or not?

Is Inline Data Compaction Orthogonal to Inline Data Deduplication?

$

Dear all,

I have been very excited about the inline data compaction feature in ONTAP 9. I read Tech ONTAP and TR4476 and learnt that inline deduplication is orthogonal to inline compaction, which means inline deduplication and online compaction can be both enabled, but a block is inline deduplicated is not compacted.

https://www.netapp.com/us/media/tr-4476.pdf (Page 12)

http://community.netapp.com/t5/Tech-OnTap-Articles/A-Look-Inside-NetApp-Inline-Data-Compaction/ta-p/122362 (search for "orthogonal")

Why are this two features so mutually exclusive? Is there any nature or reason of inline dedupliation that prevents a deduplicated block from being compacted?

Any comment would be appriciated.

FAS2050 FC connection slow read/write performance

$

First time touch Netapp device,

Got an old NETAPP FAS2050(ontap 7.3;  14 SAS disks; 2 controlers configured with cluster. ), and one disk Enclosure DS14MK4 (14 FC DISKS). I installed them in home lab.

- 21 disk are configured on AGGR1. (RAID-DP)

When I tested FC link speed (FC connections, 1GB sequence read/write), I only can get 220MBps for data reading, and 75 MBps for writing. I believe The 4GB-FC swithch and servers configuraitons do not have any issue, because I connect to another old brand name SAN, I can get 410MBps for Reading, 405MB for writing).

How can I fix this issue?

Thank you.

Netapp clustered mode antivirus

Dear all,

Perhaps soneone can give me a hint.

We have a 7-Mode metro-cluster that will be finally migrated next month.

Only CIFS is still running on this cluster for 3500 users. We use Trend for AntiVirus. When I add a file with fake virus, as a test, I only have to save the file and it is gone. So this is very fast. We use 2 VM's for AntiVirus scanning.

But now comes cDOT 8.3.2. We run 2 clusters / 4-nodes, on 2 sites (2x2), MetroCluster. We already migrated 200 Oracle-LUNs / Exchange-LUNs / SQL-LUN's. Also our VMWare Datastores al already up-and-running on these clusters. Again we use 2 VM's for Trend AntiVirus scanning for CIFS only, but when I place a file with fake-virus, it takes up to 10-12 seconds before the file dissappears.

Is this normal behaviour for cDOT?

Or can I expect performance-issues when we migrate all our CIFS-volumes and 3500 users will create load on these new systems?

How to test / investigate?

Any help is very much appreciated!

Thanks,

how to generate 50k files of 75mb each to create a test enviroment.

$

Does anyone know If there is an easy way to generate 50K files (please note: not 1 million as originally thought)  that are 75MB each, (so that we get the full 3.5TB of data) which is approximately what our suspect process was deleting, I would love to hear suggestions on how to create those files quickly.

We are presently running script on an NFS client  to copy /dev/random into a file to create a 75MB filesize, that takes 11 sec/file (so over 6 days for the 50K files)  if we copy that randomly generated file to a new filename, it  take 1.5secs (so still 12+ hrs) to generate 50K files.

Disk unpartition failed

Hi everyone,

We are trying to remove all partitions on our netapp AFF300, to reinstall it with one root partition and 2 data partitions (as it was when we received it).

Right now we are in a configuration with one root partition and one data partition.

We followed this netapp documentation https://library.netapp.com/ecmdocs/ECMP1636022/html/GUID-CFB9643B-36DB-4F31-95D4-29EDE648807D.html

unsuccessfully.

We are strugulling with the command disk unpartition 0d.01.21. Here is the error :

Disk 0d.01.21 must not have file system partitions. All partitions must be spare
Do not proceed with unpartition if disk has file system partitions. Abort unpartition (y/n)? n
Jan 11 13:28:50 [localhost:raid.unpartition.disk.fail:notice]: Disk unpartition failed on Disk 0d.01.21 Shelf 1 Bay 21 [NETAPP X371_S163A960ATE NA50] S/N [S396NA0HA06398], error CR_DISK_WRONG_STATE, additional error info ().
disk unpartition: 0d.01.21 has partitions that are not spare.

We can't find any solution on google, so any help would be much appreciated Smiley Happy

Long LIF Migration Delay Normal?

$

0

When performing a takeover on a new FAS we are setting up, we neglected to manually migrate the cluster management LIF before performing the takeover. It migrated as it should have per the defined failover group settings, but it took over a minute.

Is this normal time for a LIF to migrate in such a scenario? I know typically you would migrate all LIFs away from the node being taken over, but it still seems a bit long for the link to come back up.
