Problems activating UMASK on share...

After migration of data using 7MTT we run into a problem. On the source Netapp we noticed a UMASK of 0777 is used. 

In C-mode (running ontap 9.3) you can define the UMASK on the share level. Because a share existed on the volume level we adapted the umask "cifs share modify -vserver XXXX -share-name YYYY -file-umask...." to 0777. We did the same on a qtree defined in the same volume. 

When  dropping a file with a windows-user in the volume, the unix security is change correctly. In case we do the same in the qtree, the security is not succesfully adapted....

 

Anuy idea what is wrong here?

Hello, 

I am trying to restore a snapshot of a volume and getting below error. 

I have checked and there is enough free space. 

 

 

1. Checking policies
2. Checking access control
3. Dismounting volume on the disk
4. Restoring the LUN from Snapshot copy
5. The attempt to revert the single file '/vol/xxxxx/g.lun' to a revision from the Snapshot copy 'xxxxxxx' on the storage system 'svm-r' failed. Error code: 28. Error description: Failed to restore file from Snapshot copy G_xxxxxxxx for volume "win_xxxxxx" on Vserver "svm-r". Reason: Volume is full or Volume crossed autodelete threshold. .

Adding new disk to an Existing adp aggregate

Hello,

 

Recently we received a CDot cluster with 12 partitioned disks pre-installed from NetApp and we started using it and a week later we received 2 more SSDs which were not in the package earlier. 

 

Now we have layout like below

Can we use the 3.49TB unpartitioned disk in the aggregate "aggr_single_file" or we can only use the partition 1.0.11 (1.68TB) in the aggregate expansion.

Would it mean that using 1.0.11 (partitioned space) would leave us with no spares in the Raidgrp?

Unable access node wth SSH

Hello

 

I have imported simulate ontap ver9.4 to my ESXi host and configured some settings - after doing these, trying to log in node with SSH, but it's not working.

$ ssh admin@node-host-name

Permission denied (publickey,gssapi-keyex,gssapi-with-mic).
 
My ssh client settings are everything fine including .ssh persmission, and sshd config@node-host is also ready including  password authentication method=yes. Any comments would be appreciated.

removal of hmac-ripemd160 from OnTap 9.1p7

Hi,

 

Could some one help me on this. We are planning to upgrade our OnTap 9.1 p7 to 9.3. during the image validation, I got the below warning. Could you please let me know if we remove the mentioned MAC algoritham from the existing setup, will it cause any issue, post upgrdate.

 

Openssh 7.2 upgrade   Warning    Warning: "hmac-ripemd160" and

precheck                         "hmac-ripemd160-etm" are considered weak

                                 keyed-hash message authentication code

                                 (HMAC) algorithms and support for the same

                                 will be removed after upgrading to Data

                                 ONTAP 9.3.

                                 Action: Before retrying the upgrade, remove

                                 the above weak algorithms using "security

                                 ssh remove" command. To list all Vservers

                                 configured with one or both the above HMAC

                                 algorithms, run "security ssh show

                                 -mac-algorithms hmac-ripemd160* -vserver *

                                 -fields vserver" .

Perfstat for Windows GUI

Hi Gurus,

 

I am trying to setup perfstat untility on a windows admin host. When I run perfstat comamnd I get following error on windows

"Perfstat v7.39 (4-2013)

RSH to filer amsdc1-na-p512.europe.shell.com fails! Quitting."

 

When I tried to enable RSH on Filer ( 8.2.4P6 7-Mode) it throws below error.

 

Filer> options rsh.enable on
error: cannot change option, rsh is disallowed.

 

Please help. is there a way I can run perfstat with out rsh enabled as an alternate option. We do not have any unix based admin servers unfortunately.

Mixed SAS/SATA/SSD stack limits?

Could someone point me to a document that clear states mixed stack limits? I know that pure SSD stack is restricted to 4 shelves, but at least one document claims 6 shelves in mixed stack (it is internal document so I'm happy to discuss it offline if appropriate). HWU shows limits for SAS/SATA/SSD separately, but again is silent about mixed usage.

 

I would say HWU should explicitly describe limits in this case.

Troubleshooting with tcp_client

So, I have a node from one of our CDOT 9.1 clusters that all of a sudden can no longer reach the mail relay to send autosupport emails. I've checked DNS, IP routes, traceroute etc - all good - nothing has been changed on the filer,  the partner node still sends emails fine.

"you'll need to try a telnet to port 25 mate - can't help otherwise" they say...

TELNET? if only we had something that easy!

Wait - tcp_client - that used to work in 7-mode...

 

Yes - set diag mode, ensure diag user is unlocked, connected to node shell and set diag mode here.

Issued command and got an bind error:

 

tcp_client 4 <source IP for e0M> 25 <mail relay IP address> 25 -c 1 -s 1024

bind failed: Can't assign requested address

 

I've tried every IP allocated to this node of the cluster - same error.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I'm doing wrong or an alternative to troubleshooting open port connectivity from a pesky filer node?

Inventory Collect Tool - no data in Excel

Hi Guys,

 

I've joined a community recently and I am happy to be here because I see a lot of specialists here.  I had no idea that I will face first problem so soon. i have a bunch of Netapps to do inventory. I found a nice tool called "Inventory Collect tool". I connect it to the filer get a lot of data but cannot see it in nicely generated spreadsheet.

 

I have to files one is xml filled with conrete data and second as a workbook which has to present this data in readable form.

When i start workbook it is empty. Somehow excel does not ingest data from xml.

 

I was looking througout the Internet but no solution for that.

Do you have such problem and know how to solve it?

Load share mirror and SVM DR are supported???

After create a svmDR, I saw svm_root snapshot was not replicated to destination DR, in the production side, the volume svm_root are in load share mirror, anyone got this issue?  There are any limitations?

SQL Server Database Error 8967

Today, when I tried to restore the SQL database it gives an error 8967. First time I got this error message “SQL Server Database Error 8967”. I have found this problem on lots of SQL blogs and got the solution. But after using this code still, the problem persists.

RESTORE DATABASE [db_name] FROM  DISK = N’C:\Backup\db1.bak’

WITH CONTINUE_AFTER_ERROR;

 

After running this code I got the following error:

Msg 8967, Level 16, State 216, Server SaleServer, Line 2

An internal error occurred in DBCC which prevented further processing. Please contact Customer Support.

DBCC results for ‘marketingdb ‘.

Check terminated. A failure was detected while collecting facts. Possibly tempdb out of space or a system table is inconsistent. Check previous errors.

 

To fix this error I have found few sources, please suggest which one is helpful.

Problem with Get-NcNetInterface

Hi Everyone,

 

I'm using the Netapp powershell toolkit 4.6.0 (though the output looks like this from the Get-NaToolkitVersion command):

I am expecting a list of all the IP addresses, one for each interface but I get this "error".  I can do other things without any issues like, a standard Get-NcInterface produces the expected result. For example, this works:

Ontap select : Half duplex and NFS issues

We are trying to run a VM on an NFS datastore presented by Ontap Select 2 nodes cluster.  Everything is working except that the VM has access to the disks every minutes for 30 seconds.  The ethernet ports on the ontap select appliance are shown has half duplex even if it's configured for full duplex.  ESX host VMnic are Fullduplex. 

Anyone has idea on how to fix this issues?

We want to know Min and Max disk(RAID0 config) counts about FlexArray

Hi all,

 

We are currently configuring a FlexArray configuration by connecting
one E5660 (6TB x60)(Santricity 08.25.06) and Five DE 6660(6TB x 60) to
FAS 8040 (ONTAP 8.3.2 P 1) Single Controller (not HA).

In use Snapmirror as DestinationFAS for DR site.

 

Maximum number of disks per path in FlexArray configuration has reached 360.
And the number of volumes is also close to the upper limit of 255.

 

Therefore, in order to expand the FlexArray configuration, it is necessary to newly
construct another Path (2nd Path) in order to expand the E-series.

 

I'm trying to add three E2812 Duplex FC (12 x 8 TB) and DE212C (12 x 8 TB).
At first I was considering at E5760.

However, since it is 90 centimeters long and does not fit in a rack with a depth
of 1 meter, it is a candidate for E2812 and DE212C with short total length.

 

Question 1.

What is the minimum number of disks when configuring RAID 0 with FlexArray?
What is the maximum number of disks when configuring RAID 0 with FlexArray?

I want to grasp the number of usable disks and design it, but I could not find the information in the following materials.

NetApp CIFS Share name - ONTAP 9.1

Hello 

 

When we create CIFS share name with all captial letters (Eg : TESTSHARE), on widnows sharename shows as "testshare" all in small letters. However at the same time, when i modify share name TESTSHARe ( all in capital letters and one small letter) then windows shows properly as "TESTSHARe".  I tried with volume /SVM languae with both C UTF8 and EN-US same result. 

On 7 Mode system, share name with all captial letters works fine.

I am fully understand sharename is not case sensistive on CIFS, but one of our cusrtomer is hesitant and want share name in all capital letters :-) 

I have case opened with support ,  just want to check if anybody faced this issue before and fix for this

Disable CP type U triggers

CDOT 8.3.2P5

 

We recently installed the netapp-harvest/graphite/grafana combo and we're really impressed with the information we are getting out of it.

One of the things I've noticed is that the single biggest cause of CP events is the flush/sync trigger (CP type U).

Is it possible to configure ONTAP to disable/ignore this trigger?

I'm pretty sure that we would be happy to wait for the 10 second timer to expire to trigger the next CP event.

IO Access Pattern

Is there a way to determine the IO access pattern nature on an NFS volume?

Would like to know if it's random or sequential in nature.

Collecting stats with nabox if it helps.
