Is it possible to add additional NICs to an ONTAP Select Node?

Hi there

Using ONTAP Select Deploy 9.7 we would like to configure the following:

 

Simpel ONTAP VM with

Management (VLAN10)

SVM with NFS, and CIFS on VLAN 17 and 11

InterCluster via SnapMirror on VLAN 24

 

As far as I can see you can only define a management and a data network which ends up as e0a, e0b and e0c.

We have managed to "hack" another NIC into the mix by modifying the VM while is was in the BIOS...

But while it is shown in ONTAP as e0d etc.. it is not shown in the ONTAP Deploy GUI, and a refresh operation of the cluster fails...

I am aware that the "right" way to do this, would be to tag the VLANs inside ONTAP, but we tag our VLANs on the vSwitches and would like to continue this as we have many other hosts that uses this...

 

Any suggestions are welcome 😉

In ONTAP 9.X MetroCluster solution can we configure node scoped NDMP Tape backups from the DR site (assuming SVM scopped will not work as SVMs are not online at DR iste)? please advise

Snapshoot policy

I have some questions which I might know the answer as I used to work for NetApp but need confirmation, please reply to me only.

 

Snapshot policies can only be created on Cluster or VMS (VSERVER) level right?

 

Snapshot policies when created in vserver level, does not mean all volumes will inherit the policy within that vserver, that is only when we actually apply the policy to the volume, right?

 

If I create a snapshot policy on a cluster level it does not mean all volumes will also inherit the policy within the cluster, right?

 

I can delete/edit the root volume of the cluster and also of the vserver VOLUME-ROOT?

 

Is there a way to apply the cluster snap policy to all volumes? Is there a way to apply the vserver snap policy to all volumes?

 

Is the Vserver root volume default policy always be there even when we apply another policy to the vserver itself?

Can Ontap Select install on Vsphere 7?

I am currently installing ONTAP Select Version: 9.7 VM Version: 7.0 on VMware ESXi through a vcenter

but I got issue while select an ESXi host. not more information was given.

 

I know that in the release, only vsphere 6.X was supported, but does that means I can not use vsphere 7?

Adding smaller disks

Hi, I had a raid group with 11 900gb drives, and i've added 5 600gb drives by mistake. Is there any way to replace those 600 gb drives with 900gb. Both parity disks are 900gb disks. I've tried replacing but the new 900gb disk became 600gb. Will it regain the free space if i replace the reset of the 600gb.  If this is not possible is there any free space loss? Thank you.

NetAppDocs - import asup data

I  am trying to wrap up a project for a customer. I have used NetAppDocs in the past to create final reports, but I was always onsite having network access to the live environment. Now I have no direct access to the customer site but can download their asup data from the NetApp support site. Is it possible to use the downloaded asup data to create the documentation and if so, what is the option to import the data?

Event log show command

Hi Team,

Has anybody used the below set of commands in Cluster shell as per kb: https://kb.netapp.com/Advice_and_Troubleshooting/Data_Storage_Software/ONTAP_OS/How_to_efficiently_search_the_event_log_in_clustered_Data_ONTAP ?

 

Events since a specific time
cm6080-rtp2::> event log show -time >=5/2/2014 08:00:00
 
Events in a specific time range:
cm6080-rtp2::> event log show -time "05/02/2014 08:00:00".."05/02/2014 09:00:00"

I tried to retrive alerts that occured 2 months back, but the result displayed only for last 2 days. Changed to advanced mode as well, but did not work. Does it work in any situation?

Flexgroup 20PB volume recovery

If I want to configure 20PB as Flexgroup volume for video surveillance data, can I take snapshot per day and use snaprestore recover a whole 20PB flexgroup volume in case totally failure? If yes, how long to recover 20PB huge volume size if use snaprestore? Likely snaprestore can switch to product volume quite fast.

Lun move events log filter search

hi there, I did a 'lun move' over the weekend on a FAS8080, it took many hours and now I'm trying to  find when it completed to determine how long it took.

 

Are LUN Moves reported as 'jobs' or 'events' and how would I filter all the events to find only the activities related to 'lun moves'. I've tried all the obvious things, but I get zero results.

 

Anyone have a CLI command to return all lun move activities?

Robocopy or XCP

Hi,

 

I am looking to move CIFS data from one volume to another volume within the same cluster.

I've read forum discussions saying the Robocopy can have issues when copy data to a NetApp Cifs volume. These posts are a few years old so perhaps this is no longer the case.

I've also read that XCP functionality for CIFS isnt as advanced as it is for NFS.

 

Is there preferred tool to use?

NetApp Vscan is disconnected

Thanks for seeking this post

we have 2 AFF A300 HA Filers we newly configured av for both filer. Both filer is connected to same 2 Av servers 1 filer is working fine and another filer it show disconnected state. I have deleted recreated scanner pool and scan policy

we can see in events

from av connector we can reach the filer and test is successful, no firewall policy

can reach the AV server from filer. 

how can i proceed further

PSTK volume move from volume to aggr encryption

I have an aggregate that I want to retire.  Volumes have volume based encryption.  I'm trying to migrate volumes to other aggregates with aggr level encryption.  but it appears the start-ncvolmove cmdlet doesn't have an option to use aggregate encryption.  I'm using the latest PSTK 9.7.  anyone else found a way to do this?

I am trying to install the 7-mtt tool on a win 2019 server datacenter, [I know is not supported as per documentation], however, Netapp lab on demand has a lab that is working in there without no issues, I am getting the alert that I attach, anyone can help me on this?

 

I've tried with the local account and the admin account for the win server

Linux client : find/tree command extremly slow

Hi  folks,

 

After migrating local file systems to NFS share on NetApp we found out the runnig for example "find /<directory> -type f | wc -l" for just counting number of files in a directory is extremly slow compared to "normal" local filesystem

 

Example from local filesystem:

 

tchsl037:~ # time find /alt -type f | wc -l
619084

real 0m3.033s
user 0m1.365s
sys 0m1.768s

 

and from NFS (copied from the above):

tchsl037:~ # time find /usr/sap/BPT -type f | wc -l
619084

real 1m7.174s
user 0m2.078s
sys 0m7.430s

 

Is there a way how to speed this up?

Hi Heroes,

One of my customers is considering to use McAfee VSE for Storage AV for their NetApp appliances. and I have found NetApp has some great documents on this, for example:

I have figured out most of the things, but one thing I'm not sure is:

I saw we can configure multiple McAfee VSE for Storage servers to serve scan requests from the filer(NetApp), so, how NetApp determines which VSES server to send scan requests to?  I'm referring to the information from TR-3107.PDF page 11 - Multiple AV Servers and Multiple NetApp Storage Devices

Mixed IOM12 and IOM6 shelves in stack possible?

Hi,

 

I just bought some DS224 shelfs (IOM12) and wanted to add them to our FAS2750 stack with DS2246 shelfs (IOM6). This resulted in the message "Cabling together disk shelves 1.4 of IOM12 and 1.3 of IOM6 is not supported." As far as I remember in the past it was possible to mix a stack with IOM3 and IOM6 shelfs. Is there maybe a newer version of ONTAP supporting the mixed IOM6/12 stack? We are running verion 9.6P2 now.
