Data ONTAP API Failed

Hello,

One of our NetApp's have this error:

Data ONTAP API Failed: Internal error. Cannot retrieve information for LIFs with role "cluster-mgmt" while vifmgr is offline. Wait a few minutes, then try again. If problem persist, contact your administrator. (Erro 13001)

The two nodes within display:

The "a" node as "offline" while the "b" node as a refused connection

The error message occurs when the admin tries to login through the GUI and subsequently blocks the logon process.

SSH-ing to the CLI Management interface works as per normal.

Desperate for any help.

Thank you kindly.

Filipe.

Hi there,

Longshot but does anyone have a working config with Win2016 \  Win2019 using Snapdrive for windows version 7.1.x in production?  The LUNs are to be connected to a Netapp 2554 running 8.2.5 7-mode.

would it be possible to mount a NAS vol to the host without ethernet switch ?

As it says in the title, I want to explore to mount a NAS vol without the switch in between. Would there be some concerns involving risks too, doing so ?

snaplock retention setting to 2050

Customers create files in their applications and store data in the snaplock volume by applying retention to each file using the NetApp SDK (v9.7).
How to set up next.
1. Previously, There are files with retention set to 2029, but I want to change it to 2040 for several files in a snaplock volume.

2. When saving new data, I want to save retention in the file as 2050.

It is currently in use with onap 9.7 and is in use with snaplock enterprise, min retention period 0.

It is not known what retention each file will be stored in. It is defined as retention designated by the application and can be generally 2 to 30 years.

I want to create 1TB LUN (thin provisioning)  so If I create flex volume of size 1.2 TB is it fine ?

How much space gap is recommended between volume & LUN ?

Is it possible to exclude User from LastAccessDate?

My Company has written a software that scans all files on the Netapp in the background.

Unfortunately as the software reads all the files on Netapp, the LastAccessTime is overwritten.

So my Question is it possible to exclude a specific user from LastAccessTime?

So that specific user doesn't change the LastAccessTime

Thank your for your help

Understanding Storage Size Values

$

My environment:

VMWare vCenter 7.0.3

EXSi host 6.7

Ontap 9.8p5

I have a lun that is 2TB in size as reported by Ontap.

ESXi sees it as 2TB that has 507GB of unused space.

Ontap sees it as 2TB that is 100% full.

The volume only has the 1 lun attached to it and is not protected with snapshots.

Ontap reports the volume as 4.5TB in size with autogrow turned on.

Ontap further reports that the volume only has 519GB of available space.

My question are; Why is the volume so large?  Where is the extra data coming from?

I'm pretty new at this but this doesn't make sense to me.  It's also not just this one volume; I've checked and found a few more that follow this basic pattern.

Thanks for any help.

-Mike

vserver cifs-server OU shows wrong OU

When running the following command:

vserver cifs show -fields cifs-server,ou

The OU on 1 of our vservers is reported wrong.  We tried moving the AD Object to the OU it thought it was in, then back to the OU it was in (which is where all the rest are) and it has not updated.  Is there a command to force the netapp to update this field?

Setting the 'rdloaddriver=scsi_dh_alua' parameter with host utilities

Hi.

I came across one of the steps installing and configuring host utilities for linux OS's.

As on the doc of the link (https://docs.netapp.com/us-en/ontap-sanhost/hu_centos_67.html#san-booting), there is a part to append the following parameter 'rdloaddriver=scsi_dh_alua' for ALUA and non-ALUA to work.

However, after a certain OS version, this step has been removed from the guide manual. Would it mean this setting parameter became obsolete after a certain point ? If you could  explain why, that would be really helpful.

NFS mount showing incorrect capacity - tree quota set on qtree - snapshot configured on the volume

NFS mount showing incorrect capacity - tree quota set on qtree - snapshot configured on the volume.

We have configured a volume with 250 GB capacity. Qtree is configured using the volume and hard tree quota of 200 GB is set.
The volume also has snapshot configured with 30 days retention.

On the Linux host where the NFS is mounted, it is showing capacity 116 GB which is quota capacity - (used capacity + snapshot capacity).

Is there a way to force displaying the quota capacity on the host?

FlexGroup Volume: half of constituant are full

Hi,

One of my customer called me the other day because he was having problems with a recently created FlexGroup on his A250 (12 x 3.8TB drives, OnTap 9.9.1P3). The customer tried to do a first pass copy of data (CIFS) in preparation of a migration. During the copy operation, the unit complained about a flex group volume being full. Upon examination with us, we found that 3 out of 6 volume constituant (all residing on one aggregate, node1) were full. Why are the other 3 constituant still empty?  Thanks for your insights!

Error while installing SSL certificate - Certificate with CA .. and Serial-number .. does not exist

$

Hello,

we want to import a new Certificate Authority (CA) signed certificate in our FAS2552 (ONTAP 9.8).

After install with "security certificate install -vserver NAME -type -server-ca" and so on, all looks fine:

Checking the certificate looked like this:

FAS25521::> security certificate show -cert-name FAS2552n.xxxxxx.de

Vserver    Serial Number   Certificate Name                       Type

---------- --------------- -------------------------------------- ------------

FAS2552x   6D00015BC54A82ECA7B2ECE64C0002nnnnnnnn

                           FAS2552n.xxxxxx.de                    server-ca

Certificate Authority: xxxxxxxxxx Systemhaus Enterprise CA nn

          Expiration Date: Fri Dec 09 11:49:53 2022

FAS25521::>

But if we want to modify the SSL security configuration for the cluster SVM to use the new certificate we got an Error:

FAS2552x::> security ssl modify -vserver FAS2552n -serial 6D00015BC54A82ECA7B2ECE64C0002nnnnnnnn -ca "xxxxxxxxxx Systemhaus Enterprise CA nn" -server-enabled true

Error: command failed: Certificate with CA: "xxxxxxxxxx Systemhaus Enterprise CA nn" and Serial-number: "6D00015BC54A82ECA7B2ECE64C0002nnnnnnnn" does not exist.

FAS2552x::>

Although CA and serial number are correct, a certificate with this information allegedly does not exist.

But also, when I display the certificate via the serial number, I get the following

FAS25521::> security certificate show -serial 6D00015BC54A82ECA7B2ECE64C0002nnnnnn -fields serial, ca
vserver common-name serial ca type subtype cert-name
-------- ------------------- -------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------- --------- ------- -------------------
FAS2552n FAS2552n.xxxxxx.de 6D00015BC54A82ECA7B2ECE64C0002nnnnnn "xxxxxxxxxx Systemhaus Enterprise CA nn" server-ca - FAS2552n.xxxxxx.de

FAS25521::>

Actually everything correct - or not ? What is wrong?

Any ideas?

Thanks a lot

Best regards

Michael

PowerShell - user 'ReadOnly' does not have write access to this resource

We have a number of PowerShell scripts using the NetApp PowerShell toolkit modules that run against our AFF's. We are using an ID that is assigned the readonly role yet every time it runs a get command I see an error in the ONTAP audit logs stating that there is insufficient privileges and does not have access to write to this resource. Seems that every time PowerShell connects it is trying to write to a file in /etc/powershell but doesn't have permissions as it's part of the readonly role. Is there a permissions that can be given that would allow it to write to that file or a way to prevent powershell from trying to write to it? Or a different solution?

We are running ONTAP 9.8 and version 9.8 of the PowerShell toolkit.

Misconfigured Broadcast Domain

Hi all,

I am faced with a problem that seems simple but I can not solve.

  • Version NetApp 9.8p5
  • 4 Node (2 node AFF  + 2 node FAS)

Event logs report this error continuously:

vifmgr.reach.miscfg: Network port e0M on node cluster-3   cannot reach its expected broadcast domain Default:mgmt.

vifmgr.reach.miscfg: Network port e0M on node cluster-4   cannot reach its expected broadcast domain Default:mgmt.

network port reachability show:

cluster-1 (AFF):

e0M      Default:mgmt                         multi-domain-reachability

e0c      Default:mgmt                         multi-domain-reachability (NOT USED)

cluster-2 (AFF):

e0M      Default:mgmt                         multi-domain-reachability

e0c      Default:mgmt                         multi-domain-reachability (NOT USED)

cluster-3 (FAS):

e0M      Default:mgmt                         multi-domain-reachability

e0c      Default:BD_notused              no-reachability (NOT USED)

cluster-4 (FAS):

e0M      Default:mgmt                         multi-domain-reachability

e0c      Default:BD_notused              no-reachability (NOT USED)

Network port reachability show -node  cluster-3 (detail) :

e0M      Default:mgmt                 misconfigured-reachability

Actual Reachability: Default:BD_A244

Unreachable Ports: cluster-4:e0M, cluster-2:e0M,

                                         cluster-2:e0c, cluster-1:e0M, cluster-1:e0c

Network portreachability show -node  cluster-4 (detail):

 e0M      Default:mgmt                 misconfigured-reachability

Actual Reachability: Default:BD_A244

Unreachable Ports: cluster-3:e0M, cluster-2:e0M,

                      cluster-2:e0c, cluster-1:e0M, cluster-1:e0c

I tried ping from nodes 3 and 4 to nodes 1 and 2 ...all nodes work correctly via e0M port.

I don’t have connectivity problems but I can’t delete this message.

Do you have any suggestions on how to resolve ?

Thanks !!!!!

Does NetApp Powershell Toolkit 9.7 support ONTAP 9.10.1?

Hello,

Does NetApp Powershell Toolkit 9.7 support ONTAP 9.10.1? When we upgrade ONTAP 9.7 to 9.10.1, is it necessary to upgrade NetApp Powershell Toolkit at the same time as ONTAP?

Regards,
