7MTT -- Migrate to NVE volume in cDOT 9.1

$

Bit of a bleeding edge case here, but can't seem to find this answer.

If using 7MTT to migrate a 7-mode volume to cDOT 9.1 -- can we specify that the volume be encrypted using NVE on the new controller?

Otherwise (if I've read the NVE documentation correctly), I'd have to perform a vol move to encrypt that volume.   That will be an issue with very large volumes (35TB) -- won't have that much space to play around with.

I realize this may be more of a Request for Enhancement for 7MTT -- just curious if there's any discussion on this scenario yet.

High CPU HOSTOS process

The system was upgraded last week from Ontap 8.2.1 to 8.3.2P6. The upgrade went smoooth with no problems. Clients can access the NetApp. But when i look at the NetApp with Grafana/Harvest tool i see the CPU  being high, mainly by one process. I looked up what HOSTOS does but it does not explain how or why this process is at 667%. Anybody a idea?

About serial_number of Job history and ems log

I want to know how to use the serial_number of "Job history" and "ems log".

The maximum value of the serial_number is  2^64-1 as far as I was confirmed.

The next 2^64-1 return to 0?
Product specification does not return to zero?
(Because the maximum value is greater)

Auditing "change permissions"

Hi there.

I´m trying to accomidate a customer to set up auditing on their SMB vserver.

There are no problem activating it, and it writes to the log file.

But it´s not capturing the event the customer is after.

They want to see if anyone change permission on a folder.

Is that even possible?

As i understand it´s "4670: Permissions on an object were changed" that they need.

I have read tr-4189 and found the list of event IDs the controller is logging.
4670 is not avaialable... but 4663 is and it captures "Read/Write Object Get/Set Object attributes"

Should the "change permission" be available in that eventID, or is it impossible to audit folder permission changes on a NetApp vserver?

(Running cDOT 8.3.1)

Can anyone help me out i am facing the same issue.

I have already taken these step to fix the issue:

1- Host to storage connectivity - OK

2- New snapvault is also not getting initialize and giving same error

3- Tried the new snapvault  relationship with server's IP instead of name but failed

4- httpd.access                 all

5- checked    /etc/hosts  entry is correct.

I've been asking 'round about the latest ONTAP release code names.

Got an answer back from the local Dallas NetApp office today:

Full Steam – ONTAP 8.3

LongBoard – ONTAP 9.0

LongBoard.1 – ONTAP 9.1

Harpoon – ONTAP 9.2

Fat Tire – ONTAP 9.3

Is this list accurate ?

See the video above for older release code names.

aggr0 - adding disks and creating volume for data

$

Hi,

I am new to Netapp.

We recently bought 2 filers with 12 disks each : FAS2552  - NetApp Release 8.2.3P3 7-Mode

Since the aggr  already took 6 disks (3 for each controller), I am thinking of  simply adding the remaining 6 disks to it and create my data volume there (alongside the root volume).

Is this recommended ?  if not, are there any issues with regard to system stabliity and performance that I need to be aware of ?

thanks in advance.

Hello all,

I have 9 SSD's on my storage system. I want to ask, whether I use those SSD for tiering (as storage pool) and simultaneosly for standard data aggreate. 9 X 400 SSD provide me net 2TB usable space in Raid dp .And I want in this same raid group split %50 for tiering %50 for data read&write operations. Is that possible?

thanks

Snapmirror Cascade Reversal

I have a snapmirror cascade  A --> B --> C

I need to run a test of this where the site containing A and B is down and I want to run on the C copy,  then when the site with A and B is fixed  reverse the sync.

If I update, quiesce ,  then break the B --> C mirror then I can use the C to write data.    However then when I try operations reverse resync  i get  message the the volume is part of a cascade and to delete the other snapmirrors

How can I reverse the copy so that A becomes the primary again without a full copy of the data again.

Hi All,

Recently, I revert the AFF8020 from cDOT 9.1 to cDOT 8.3.2P5, but there is some strange condition afterward.

The System Manager and Command line can't enable inline dedupe

The error as below:

DATA ONTAP APF failed: Inline Deduplication requires an effective cluster version of DATA ONTAP 8.3.2 or later

Please help to share your experience to see how it solves.

Many thanks.

vol0 full on 7 mode

Hi,

on netapp 7mode metro with a pair of filers the root volume vol0 became full because of abnormal growth of logs, i'd expect panic alert and take over to the other node

Netapp just became slow, responded only to some hosts, randomly , why it didn't move automatically to the other node ?

then manual takeover was performed and all started to work normally. My concern is why it didn't happen automatically ?

Also, when the users login to our windows machine their shares will appear full even if is not full and when the user click to that full(!) share, they see nothing. I attach a file, how it seem.
