Hi,Guys,

I have two questions about ontap select deployment:

1.Can we deploy multi metro SDS pair in one ontap select cluster?

2.Can we deply 4 single node in one cluster and the volume in these nodes can build to one or more flexgroup volume?

Thanks

Error: command failed: Port "cluster1-01:e0c" cannot be used because it is currently the home port or current port of a LIF.
To view LIFs with a specified home port, use the "network interface show -home-node <nodename> -home-port

We are now in the process of purchasing an antivirus.
We now have Kaspersky. Is it possible to support ONTAP 9.14?
Can we use Kaspersky Antivirus Solution Guide for Clustered Data ONTAP?

What advantages does this antivirus provide over other types?
Can I get a technical report as a PDF?

Aggregates Capacity Used Above 96% & 96% of IOPS on our arrays falls on 20% of our capacity

Hello. We've four out of 8 Aggregates at 96%.  I believe volumes inside them are thick provisioned as well. Not sure how to check and confirm that thick/thin part. But I know this is dangerous and performance issues may occur. How to take care of this. Can we move around between aggregates or add to an aggregate from another one directly to increase space.  Any capacity planning doc on Aggregates over 80% utilization. Also, want to know how aggregates are formed and why they are formed the way they are, by folks who're managing it earlier.

2nd Part of question: How to check and make sure flash cache is turned on and configured correctly on applicable nodes, and any straightforward command to identify unwanted snapshots and volumes which are not mapped to any hosts.

Finally, I've been told that 96% of IOPS on our arrays falls on 20% of our capacity (54 TiB). What does this entail and can this workload concentration can be properly distributed. Any technical doc on this as well.

Thanks in advance.

Cluster Interconnect Switch Compatibility - ONTAP v13.1 & Cisco Nexus

Greetings NetApp Community,

I'm working on a MetroCluster setup with two (NetApp AFF A220) across two sites (3KM distance). We'll utilize a 100Gb DWDM link. However, our ONTAP version (v13.1) doesn't seem to support NetApp CN1610 switches.

I've reviewed the compatibility list (https://mysupport.netapp.com/info/communications/ECMLP2859128.html) and see mostly Nexus switches listed. We have a Cisco Nexus N9K-C93180YC-EX available. Would this be a suitable cluster interconnect even if it's not explicitly listed?

Any guidance on best switch options would be greatly appreciated.

find the path of a specific file

Hi

I suspect some permissions acces on a file in a cifs server.

I would like to check the effective access on the netapp with the command

vserver security file-directory show-effective-permissions

but i don't find a way to find the path of the file.

It s a really old old file with some strange charset on the name.

I can't use the cifs share to do that as there s a lot of cross domain and nested groups involved. Then i don't reallt know on which groups this user is member off

I can access the file on the explorer of system explorer. But i don't find a way there to either

- get the path i would able to paste in the cli command

- find if a specific user has acces to this file or not.

At the end i didn't find a way to list the content of a volume from the cli

Does someone know how i can espace from this trap?

Syslog forwarding - which LIF is the source

Hello

I'm troubleshooting connectivity to syslog server and I can still see:

EMS::SYSLOG_HANDLER: Cannot send an ems message to syslog destination: x.x.x.x Reason: cannot add the destination to the syslog_client. Error: Failed to connect: Operation timed out

Ping to syslog destination is working. Firewall is opened between cluster_mgmt LIF and syslog destination, so it leads me to confirm if really a cluster_mgmt is the source LIF that sends the logs or maybe node management LIFs are sending the logs - can anyone confirm? I've tried to find this information in documentation but I couldn't.

Controller replaced shows different data

Hi,

I got a FAS2620 Cluster with 2 nodes, a few weeks ago there was a failure in 1 Controller, it is an old ONTAP 9.3 (don't jude me for this) with external support service, this support replaced the controller with a renewed one and for many reasons we didn't notice the node didn't come back, when we finally can get a login screen by console, Service Processor IP and all data shown was from previous company and running ONTAP 9.7x, after some work I downgrade to ONTAP 9.3P21 but I think the node needs to be rebuild from scratch, the issue is I can't get ONTAP 9.3  version to be in the same version as the cluster does and I can't update the cluster because there is a node missing, besides the node working is sharing data for final users.

I think the only way to get both nodes working as a cluster is backup all data and force an update in the node running 9.3 to 9.3P21 and rebuild the cluster from scratch.

Probably there could be other way so I'm open to any suggestion.

NetApp Aggregate Offline, Volumes Gone

$

Please bear with me here -- I'm a network guy and know very little about NetApp. But I'm trying to help a customer restore a NetApp that crashed (possibly due to power issues). It's an older single-chassis two-node cluster running an EOL version of ONTAP (8.3), so formal support isn't an option. With a shelf, it has 48 disks total, of which 6 are currently in a failed/broken state. The overall system and both nodes in the cluster show healthy, but the problems that I see just from poking around in the CLI and GUI are as follows:

- The aggregates (other than aggr0 for each node) show in an "unknown" state. (The state was "failed" prior to a reboot of the cluster.) Attempting to bring them online results in "Failed to bring aggregate <name> online. Reason: Lookup failed."

- The volumes do not seem to exist. They are listed with the "volume show" command but no information about them (e.g. size) is displayed other than the aggregates they belong to. In the GUI, the volume names appear in the namespace but nothing is listed on the "volumes" tab for the Vserver. In the namespace, nothing that displays can be mounted or unmounted. Attempting to bring a volume online returns "Error onlining volume ... Unable to set volume attributes ... Reason: The volume does not exist for the operation."

- The single Vserver is running but the dashboard command shows the error "Vserver root volume and root volume load-sharing mirrors are either offline or don't exist."

This NetApp is unfortunately an SPOF for the network in question, so any assistance or advice is appreciated. Even if the aggs/volumes cannot be restored, is there any way to export the data residing on the healthy disks?

Thanks.

Hi All,

I would like to ask about the RCF file for Bes53248.

What is the difference between downloading BES-53248-RCF v1.10 Cluster-HA.txt from the NetApp website and using the RCF generator tool? Do I need to reimport the RCF file after updating the firmware?

Thanks.

Hello,

I performed Traceroute run on cluster1. Traceroute from cluster2 to cluster1 is working fine. but not the other way around from cluster1 to cluster2. There is only problem with Intercluster lif other remaining lifs are pingable on cluster2. There is no problem with cluster1. Kindly suggest.

cluster1::>traceroute -node cluster1-01 -destination 192.168.0.83

Autonomous Ransomware Protection - Real World Examples

We are running OnTAP 9.12.1(P11) and are considering implementing Autonomous Ransomware Protection. While I will test it, it's hard to simulate real-world scenarios perfectly. I'd love to hear from fellow admins who have implemented Autonomous Ransomware Protection what their take on it is. Was it performant? Was it mostly accurate or were there a lot of false positives? Any particular type of data it did or didn't work well on? I'd love any feedback anyone is willing to give! Thanks.

We are now in the process of transferring the organization's information data from the old storage system represented by HPE 3par to the new Netapp (c800). What methods are available to transfer data from the old system to the new?
Can you help us with this matter because it is very important to us?

iSCSI LUN Migration from QNAP to NetApp storage

$

Hi,

I am trying to migrate iSCSI LUN from QNAP storage to NetApp Storage using Windows "Dynamic disk replication" by mirroring the QNAP and NetApp LUNs on the Windows server. Getting the error "All disks holding extents for a given volume must have the same sector side and the sector size must be valid" while trying to add the NetApp LUN as a mirror.

Do we have any workaround/solution to overcome this error as modifying the sector size is not an option?

Source and Target LUNS are the same size.

Thanks

Guru

Multi-Admin Verification vs. Snapshot Locking

$

Okay here's an interesting one! I'm looking to improve security on our NetApp clusters. We are running OnTAP 9.12.1P11. I've just read up on multi-admin authentication and snapshot locking. Because I'm *primarily* interested in protecting snapshots from malicious deletion, it seems that it would make sense to implement one of these two features but not both. Both would seem like overkill - requiring multiple admins to delete snapshots that were protected via locking anyway.

Has anyone implemented one or both or either of these features? How did you find that it/they worked in practice? Any thoughts on which of the two might be a better choice in my scenario? Would love to hear any and all thoughts!
