Any suggested new platform to replace FAS806 for a 4 nodes cluster? 2 of them are FAS8080
Suggestions on New FAS Platform
role permissions not working after changes
I have created a few roles on all of my netapp clusters.
the initial config was something like:
role cmddir access
noc snapmirror readonly
noc snapmirror update all
noc2 snapmirror break all
noc2 snapmirror release all
where noc 2 members are nested in noc in active directory. i added
noc2 snapmirror delete all
but the noc2 users don't have snapmirror delete as a command still. where are these items cached to get cleared?
Rename SnapVault destination volume and not lose any snapshots
We have a few volumes that are in SnapVault relationships where the destination volume was named incorrectly. What are the steps that we need to take in order to rename the destination volumes and save all of the snapshots that have been copied so far?
newly added shelf is missing in "storage shelf show" output
Hi All,
We have added a new shelf today, I can see it in sasadmin expander_map and storage show disk -p and node-connectivity outputs but not in "storage shelf show" output.

Disk sanitize vs zeoring for SSD
Hi, when throwing old SSDs in the bin, would you say zeroing would be enough or would you have to go with sanitize? I read some article (could not find it now) that with zeroing data could still be retrived. Is that true or just a theroretical possibility?
Kind Regards

Converting a SnapLock 7mode controller for cDOT
Hello all,
we plan to convert a 7mode SnapLock Enterprise system (8.2.4) to ONTAP9 (9.3).
For several reasons (7mtt does not support CFT for SnapLock and the outage for CFT - hours - is longer than allowed (minutes)) we plan to go following way
1) 7mode -> temporary cDOT system (7mtt CBT) - this temporary cDOT is SnapLockEnterprise enabled
2) converting the 7mode -> clustered ONTAP (reinstall the controller - with new set of disks - we can keep the original ones intact forever)
3) SnapMirror from temporary cDOT -> converted system
Notes:
There is only SLE aggregate (and the root aggregate) on the 7mode system - no SnapLock Compliance
Question(s):
a) Is there anybody here who converted a 7mode controller with compliance clock initialized to clustered ONTAP? Is the initialization/wipe allowed with compliance clock running?
b) Do you see any pitfall in the general idea?
Thanks
Harry
How to get image from node repository to cluster image repository

Can we ask ontap v9 simulator questions here ?

Can we put more system resource in snapvault jobs since the destination cluster ONLY Backup uesd
Hi Sir :
We build-up an Cluster and ONLY used for snapvault used.
The main purpose is for instead of tape backup software.
And after check all FAQ and related TRs, it seems that the priority of snapmirror and snapvault was low.
But since this cluster is only used for backup destination cluster, is there any possible way to getting more system resource at snapvault jobs?
We had already build-up several SATA aggregates and using snapvault ( XDP as vault policy ).
Now we build-up 2PB space and already used 70%.
We planed to add another HA pair this year and double the usable space since we plan to put daily snapshot or even weekly snapshot inside the destination cluster replace the daily/weekly tape backup.
And will it better to change to "Unified Replication Snapmirror"?
Thanks for anyone in discuss ^^.
Snapmirror resume and resync after destination controller shutdown
HI ,
I am new to snapmirror and i would like to know whtat is the procedure to re-enable , resume or resync the snapmirror on destination volume after change the ipadresses and powered off the destination controller .
For example
I have two HA pair systems FAS2554 running data ontap 8.2 7- mode .I have to change the ippaddressess and network configuration setting on the Destination system and gracefully shutdown that controller after that i need to re -sync or re-enable the snapmirror again . what are the steps to do that ?
Snapmirror status is on idle right now .

NVE with unreachable KMIP server
Hi all,
Would an NVE encrypted volume continue serving data while the key management server is unreachable? Documentation is talking about this issue during the boot process, but not during normal operations. Therefore I assume keys are cached while the storage system is up and the server would not be needed, but I am not sure. Is this correct? Thank you.

Snapshot policy for svm root volume
Hi,
I am wondering about the snapshot topic for a svm root volume (especially using NFS and CIFS protocol), because I did not find any best practices related to such matter.
I have various clusters running CDOT 8.3.2 and ONTAP 9.2P1. Most of the devices are FAS2552, but I have 8040 & 8080EX as well. For each svm I am configuring 2 Load-Sharing mirrors in order to protect the svm root volumes, this work pretty good. My concerns are the following :
- Is there any best practice concerning the snapshot policy for an svm root volume ? Should it be default (6x hourly, 2x daily, 2x weekly) or is it not necessary to have this amount of snap. copies.
- what should be the snapshot reserve size ? Current configuration is more often 5% but some clusters have 10%. What should be set for these LS mirrors ?
Thank you for your help !

SVM-DR ONTAP 9.2
I thought this might be helpful to other, when I searched for vsdr.schedule.unavailable the only article I found was not in English and there was nothing from NetApp.
I had a snapmirror relationship that was not healthy between an svm and an SVM-DR on two different clusters, I have three SVM-DRs, two I can do transfers between source and destination and they are healthy, the 3rd was not healthy and in Events there was the error mesage below. I looked at the snapshot-policy schedules, they were OK, I looked at the vserver policy it was OK.
The problem was the Storage Efficiency Policy names that I created on the two clusters were not identical, on one cluster the schdule name was 1207am dedupe, on the other it was 1207AM dedupe, after I made them both 1207AM dedupe, the transfers worked and the the relationships are all healthy. Scheduled dedupe was not configured configured on the two source vservers so they were unaffected.
After the fact I discovered the command bosnapcls002::snapmirror> show-history -fields additional-info
which showed exactly what the problem was, below is the output
dr_ams_nfs: 9e8c4967-1111-11e8-a5ea-00a098cd9c9f Transaction ID: 6522177562938968579 snapshot: vserverdr.0.ac95c0e2-d525-11e7-96e8-00a098cd9c9f.2018-02-13_180000Failed to apply the source Vserver configuration. Reason: Unrecoverable error during configuration replication, requires manual intervention. Error: Schedule "1207am dedupe" not found.
Thank you

Data OnTAP DSM for MPIO on Windows Server 2016
I see from the IMT and the following posts that Data OnTAP DSM for MPIO is not supported on Windows Server 2016:
Does anyone know if an update is in the works to support Server 2016? I have always installed NetApp's DSM software in lieu of the Host Utilities Kit (my understanding is the HUK is optional if NetApp's DSM software is installed). Interestingly, the iSCSI for Windows Express Guide in 9.3 indicates the guide is only for Server 2012 or 2008, and it lists the NetApp DSM software as a requirement.

How can i get "quota report" on ONTAP9?
regads,
Is there a best practice for CIFS Volume Size considering Backups, Snapshot, Snapmirror etc.
I understand that the Volume size limits are huge in latest versions of ONTAP (100TB) but from a realistic standpoint considering external factors like Backups, Snapshots, Snapmirror etc. that will impact for Bigger sized volumes - what is the recommended range for Volume Sizes for CIFS shares that will hold millions of files that belong to hundreds of Business teams.
If the Volume sizes are huge For Ex: greater than 10TB and if we are doing a daily incremental and weekly full backup that will impact backup scheduling plus restores will take longer, if there is snapmirror ongoing and due to some reason we have to perform the initial sync all over then you have 10TB data to sync which can take months due to limited WAN bandwidth also not imacting production replications/transfers during Business hours.
Space reclaim for lun
Hello,
I have some iscsi lun configured on a 9.1P10 cluster.
space-allocation option is disabled, so I'm guessing I'm wasting disk space without reclaiming space.
Ontap 9 documentation says
"If you set the space-allocation option to enabled, Data ONTAP notifies the host when the volume has run out of space and the LUN in the volume cannot accept writes. This option also enables Data ONTAP to reclaim space automatically when your host deletes data."
Can I use snapdrive to reclaim space one shot?
Can I use a windows host to reclaim space on lun mapped for both windows and linux clients?
Do will be a disruptive operation?
Thank you
Lorenzo
Broken Disks
Hello,
I need to repair this relationshtip to a volume on our DR site
Details:
Managed volume 'FC_vserver:/CC_sprotect01_SP_19_Copy_82_VServer_FC01_fs_frpub_prod_Mirror' of subscribed volume 'VServer_FC01:/fs_frpub_prod' is missing on node 'Mirror'.
Possible reasons include:
(1) The managed volume is explicitly deleted by the user, not through a partner application invoked storage-service API call. To rectify this condition use a partner application UI to invoke the storage-service-cleanup API and the storage-service-conform APIs, first to remove this volume node member from this storage service and then to create a new protection volume as part of the storage service.
(2) The container object (aggregate/node/cluster) in which the storage object is located may be in a transient state, thus hiding the volume's presence. In this case, ensure that the containing object is online. Then wait for a refresh cycle.
Any assistance would be appreciated.
