secd.conn.auth.failure:

Hi there,

 

We have been getting these event logs.  Been looking at the other posts but not getting anywhere.

 

 

secd.conn.auth.failure: Vserver (xxx_svm1) could not make a connection over the network to server (ip xxx.xxx.180.80, port 445) via interface xxx.x.180.249. Error: Operation timed out.

 

 

This message occurs when the Vserver cannot establish a TCP/UDP connection to or be authenticated by an outside server such as NIS, LSA, LDAP and KDC. Subsequently, some features of the storage system relying on this connection might not function correctly.
 
Ensure that the server being accessed is up and responding to requests. Ensure that there are no networking issues stopping the Vserver from communicating with this server. If the error reported is related to an authentication attempt, ensure that any related configurable user credentials are set correctly.
 

 

 

PInging from the command using the lif that is reported to be the issue resulted  Ok (is alive).  Please advise before we open a case with support.

 

 

 

ping -vserver xxx_svm1 -lif xxx_svm1_lif06 -destination xxx.xxx.180.80

 

 

Also tried this command:

 

nas::> vserver services name-service dns check -vserver xxx_svm1

cluster image package get -> Error: Peer certificate cannot be authenticated with given CA certi

Hello,

 

tried to download an update package from a local web server and ran into this certificate error:

 

cluster image package get -url http://webserver:/93P1_q_image.tgz

Package download failed.

Error: command failed: Failed to download package from http://.../93P1_q_image.tgz.

Error: Peer certificate cannot be authenticated with given CA certificates : SSL certificate problem: self signed certificate"

 

This happens on a 9.3 cluster and on a 9.1 cluster...

It used to work a couple of weerks ago when I downloaded and updated from 9.1 to 9.3 ...

 

 

 

How to fix?

Nblade.cifsSameTreePerSess: Received too many connection requests to the same share from one session: clientIP:port 192.168.21.45:60555

 

This does not seem to work anymore in 9.1 ?

 

vserver cifs options modify -vserver svm-cifs -max-same-tree-connect-per-session 4096

Error: invalid argument "-max-same-tree-connect-per-session"

 

any ideas ?

SnapVault Restore

Hi all,

 

 

I tried to restore from snapvault to primary volume when finished restoring I notice that on primary volume have a new snapshot named like this : restored.4f7c8ab6-1172-11e8-8544-000c29f0c2b4_2157018083.1min.2018-02-14_2112.2018-02-14_211836 . So I would like to know what is this snapshot and I tried to restore the primary volume by that snapshot but it failed. Please advice

Ontap 9.1 Upgraded 2240 upgrade not complete ?

Hi,

 

we upgraded our 2240 single node disruptivly and reinstalled 9.1P10.

 

It all works fine so far, but i still get this message when connecting via ssh to the clusteR:

FabricPool tiering Policy

As I understand, OnTap 9.2 or above supports FabricPool tiering policy, and there are two or not more policies, one is SnapShot  policy which will be only migrate SnapShots to S3 bucket.

 

Now, the question is about "Backup" policy. If I wanted to migrate the cold volume data along with Snapshots, I use this policy, which will leave meta data in on-premise aggregate. Am I understanding correct?

NetApp FAS2650 ONTAP 9 Aggregate Disk Space Usage

I am starting this discussion because I need to calculate Volume Sizing to avoid aggregate running out of disk spaces leading to LUN being offline, however, I find that my 16 TB aggregate after Volume and LUN assignment, is using only 208 GB used spaces and lots of free spaces left  !!!!!!!!!!!!!

 

My 16 TB Aggregate has 3 Volumes as below:-

1st Volume 14 TB with 1 x 13 TB LUN with Space Reservation
2nd Volume 1.1 TB with 1 x 1 TB LUN with Space Reservation
3rd Volume 1 GB used by root

 

I have the 1st Volume above with Storage Efficiency Dedup and Compression scheduled running at midnight that has shown saving over 200 GB of disk spaces.

 

 

The 1st Volume holds a 13 TB LUN which is a vmware vmdk disk.

 

When I check the 13 TB LUN from its vmware client GUI, the Capacity shows that 10 TB has been used and only 3 TB left.

 

However, from the NetApp GUI, it shows that the 13 TB LUN only has 2.5% used, therefore, how can that be possible even with Dedup and Compression turned on that has only saved 223.5 GB ????

 

 

All my Volumes will NOT be using any snapshot, backup technology, snapmirror...etc that creates snapshot, however, I am using Storage Efficiency Dedup and Compression scheduled running at midnight, would it lead to temporary snapshot being generated in the process and I need to reserve spaces for snapshot ????????

Can I download more than one update package?  I want to have both the 91_q_image.tgz and the 93_q_image.tgz image files on the cluster.  Upgrade from 8.3 to 9.1 and then 9.1 to 9.3 but have both images available?  What is the path for the package repository?  Can I create more space on this location?

ADP on FAS2620

New FAS2620 with Ontap 9.1 being installed and there are total of 36 x 4TB SATA drives which I would like to maximize storage capacity.  It seems like the internal drives were root-data partitioned already from factory.  My question I have is, when creating a new aggregate is it advisable to mix root-data partitioned disks with data-only drives and create one aggregate assign to one node (obvisouly this will create two different size of disk/partion raid group as data-only partion disks will have larger partition)? or root-data parition ALL of the drives and create one aggregate assign to one node?

move of a shelve of my NETAPP 8040

Hi,

 

I have a NETAPP 8040 running cDOT 9.1. I have 12 shelves. 8 in rack1 and 4 in rack2. The 4 in rack 2 are 1 aggregate of SSD disks.

 

I  now want to move physically the 4 shelves in rack 2 to rack 1. I have space enough to move first all the VMs (on Hyper-V) to a LUN on volumes already stored on shelves in rack1. So the aggregate on the shlves in rack1 will be empty (or not in use)

 

Can i just switch of the 4 shelves in rack2, move them to rack1 and power up ?

 

Or do i need to shutdown the whole Netapp for this operation ? and power up when the 4 shelves of rack2 are reconnected in rack 1 ?

Enclosure Services Issue

Hi,everyone.

 

I have an old NetApp FAS6220 with 8.1.4P9D18 7-Mode.

Now a days, I can see many of CRITICAL log each hour.

[FAS6220-B:ses.access.sesUnavailable:CRITICAL]: Enclosure Services unavailable for one or more shelves on channel 1b.

 

However,There is no alarm on SystemManager and no alarm light on controller.

My service seems running normally too.

 

Since it's an old device the Maker warranty is out of date.

 

Could you please help sovle this issue.

NetApp ONTAP 9 Volume Sizing Problem

My aggregate is 16 TB and holds 1 x 15 TB Thin Provisioned Volume and another 1 x TB Thin Provisioned Volume inside, and the 15 TB Volume has a 14 TB LUN with Space Reservation.

 

The 1 x 15 TB Volume has scheduled weekly Dedup and Compression.

 

The Volumes are not using any backup, snapmirror..etc technology that create snapshot.

 

1) Is it ok that I do NOT enable any Fractional Reserve because there's no snapshot???

 

2) Would the Scheduled Dedup and Compression has any chance of creating any snapshot during the process???

 

3) If it's sure that the Volume has no snapshot, is it safe to turn off the Automatic Volume Resize Grow or Shrink????

 

4) Can I simply turn off Automatic Volume Resize and make the LUN Size same as the Volume if it's sure that there'll be no snapshot created????

How to run NetApp Select on KVM?

I need to start a NetApp Data ONTAP Select instance on OpenStack cloud (KVM based virtualization) in order to perform some testing between OpenStack storage components using NetApp as backend.

 

Data ONTAP Select seems to be the best candidate for this because it should be provisioned on demain for each test suite execution and it would avoid depending on availability of a specific NetApp hardware, which is quite problematic because test execution could run in largu number of geographies. Using the virtualized version would avoid location based issues, assure we always test with a specific version. The only limition is that no performanc testing can be done with it but this is known and outside the scope of these tests.

 

I tried to convert the OVF image (9.3) to QCOW2 and start it open open stack but I ended up with a kernel panic that looks like

CDot Monitor SnapMirror using Nagios-Plugins

Hello,

 

I am new to SNMP stuff, I have configured SNMP on NetApp & I tried to monitor some of the parameters like NFS, CIFS and SnapMirror using MIB file but its not working. I worked with NetApp support team they have shared me TR document which says SNMP MIB or Traps will not supported to monitor NFS, CIFS & SnapMirror. My requirement is to monitor those parameters. Please share me how to monitor those parameters using Nagios. Kindly provice me clear information which will helps me a lot to configure. Please let me know if any other info requires.

Quotas on SM destination (7-mode)

Hi,

 

Can/Should 7-Mode VSM destination volumes automatically enable quotas when their SnapMirror relationships are broken? (Assuming the source volume has quotas enabled.)  Note that quotas are automatically disabled on the destination volume while in a mirrored-state.  In my testing, you still have to manually enable quotas on the volume after the SnapMirror relationship is broken.

 

I assume this is an expected behaviour but appreciate if someone can confirm. Also, is there a way to work around, to enable it automatically everytime the relationship is broken?

extended group not working in 8.3.1P2

I would like to use more than 16 groups in my netapp cluster.

Then i activacte the auth-sys-extended-groups fonctionnality

Can a spare disk be picked up by the other node

Assuming I have two nodes HA cluster, each node has an aggregate, and also owns a spare disk, if one spare is being already used, and the second disk failed, can the other spare owned by the other node be automatically picked up for 2nd failure?

 

I think the answer is yes, but just to make sure with you.

Create audit log on Snaplock Enterprise volume fails

Hello,

 

we have Snaplock Enterprise to be able to delete WORM files just in case.

 

Tried to delete a file, which fails without an audit log on a COMPLIANCE volume.

"Error: command failed: Audit logging is not configured for Vserver"

 

Created an ENTERPRISE volume, but audit file cannot be created:

"Error: command failed: Volume "logVol" is not a compliance volume"

 

So ... I bought a Snaplock ENTERPRISE license to be able to delete WORM files

but I need a Snaplock COMPLIANCE license to create a Snaplock COMPLIANCE aggr and log volume on it, and to be able to create an audit log in it...

 

Netapp.. are you serious? Smiley Frustrated
