How to upgrade the filer from ONTAP version is 8.1.2 to ONTAP version to 8.2.5

Hi
We have NetApp FAS2220 SAN and 3xFujitsu PRIMERGY ESX host servers and we are using VMware Vcenter appliance.
On the NetApp filer the current ONTAP version is 8.1.2 - 7 Mode.

I would like to upgrade the filer from ONTAP version is 8.1.2 to ONTAP  version to 8.2.5. Please post me any tutorials or videos to do this upgrade. I have access to NetApp OnCommand Systems manager (version 3.0) and will I be able to do the upgrade from the GUI. Or do I need to do through the command line logging into the filer through putty session.

The  data stores are NFS

I have downloaded the upgrade file  for Ontap version 8.2.5 (825P1_q_image.tgz)

Any help much appreciated  and thanks in advance.

Difference in pri en sec snapshots ONTAP 9.3

Hi community,

thing is i'm struggeling with snapshot sizes on primary and secondary ONTAP 9.3P2 controllers.

Am i right to presume that when i take a daily snapshot on the primary with a snapmirror label _daily on it (let's say 100GB), this is transferred to the secondary Netapp with a SnapMirror XDP policy, this has to be the same size on the secondary (100GB)? I mean SM policy picks the SnapShot with the _Daily SM label, so it has to be the same snapshot on the secondary?

I see some big differences in snapshot size with the same name on pri and sec. Netapp.

Attached is a file with volumename, snapshotname and sizes.

ONTAP 9.4P3 running on unsupported FreeBSD version!?

Hi there,

our security department does regular vulnerability/security scans of the environment and they recently approach me with this:

"FreeBSD 10.3 support ended on 2018-04-30.

Upgrade to FreeBSD 10.4 / 11.2.

For more information, see : https://www.freebsd.org/security/"

This was the result of scanning a FAS2750 running ONTAP 9.4P3.

I know ONTAP goes through intesive hardening process and FreeBSD is not accessible (that easy),

but still, can you please comment?

Thanks!

Thanks!

Hello,

In search of an answer as I've followed all instructions in this KB and I still cannot establish a putty session to the nodes I've placed into FIPS mode.

https://kb.netapp.com/app/answers/answer_view/a_id/1071223/~/while-fips-is-enabled-on-data-ontap-9.0%2B%2C-users-are-unable-to-ssh-into-the

I'm running ONTAP 9.3

AFF A700 Controllers

Putty .70

I've tried clearing the host entries for putty in the registry and I still get the "Couldn't agree a hostkey algorithm (available: )" message when attempting to connect.

Taking the nodes out of FIPs mode shouldn't be the answer...can anyone help here?

Thank You.

Hi,

We are trying to Deploy ONTAP Select version 9.4 on a cluster of 2 nodes. We are trying the evaluation license and using vCenter 6.7 Enterprise.

The nodes are deployed succesfully but at the end of the process we get the following message:

  • StorageFailoverNotEnabled: Storage failover not enabled for cluster "ONTAP-EXP-CLUSTER".

You can see the screen shot of the events in the attachement.

Anybody has an idea why our installation fails?

Thank you,

Query about undestroy & destroy

Hi,

i did destroyed the aggr with below command,

netapptest> aggr destroy aggr1_raid_dp
Are you sure you want to destroy this aggregate? yes
Aggregate 'aggr1_raid_dp' destroyed.

After that undestroyed same aggr with below which i was destroyed as above,

netapptest> aggr undestroy aggr1_raid_dp
To proceed with aggr undestroy, select one of following options
[1] abandon the command
[2] undestroy aggregate aggr1_raid_dp ID: 0x75368a80-11e8ecce-34125ab4-12345678
Selection (1-2)? 2
Aggregate 'aggr1_raid_dp' undestroyed. Run wafliron to bring the aggregate online.
netapptest> aggr statis
aggr: No such command "statis".
The following commands are available; for more information
type "aggr help <command>"
add mirror rename split
copy offline restrict status
create online scrub undestroy
destroy options show_space verify
media_scrub
netapptest> aggr status
Aggr State Status Options
aggr1_raid_dp restricted raid_dp, aggr lost_write_protect=off
wafl inconsistent
64-bit
aggr1_raid4 online raid4, aggr
64-bit
aggr0 online raid_dp, aggr root

netapptest>

Now Questions i have is,

-When i did destory was the aggr information was stored at where?

-Do we able to see those stored infromation?

-How it's brining back to undestory state & from where?

-Why undestoryed aggr showing as below status(restricted &lost_write_protect=off)& options mentoned instead of offline?

Aggr State Status Options
aggr1_raid_dp restricted raid_dp, aggr lost_write_protect=off
wafl inconsistent

Config Dump is Not Supported

$

All, I am very new to NetApp, but I am responsible for an ONTAP 8.x Cluster of two nodes (FAS 2554).

Everything is working just fine, but I wanted to get a copy of the system configuration in case I need to reload from scratch. It looks like the "config dump" command is one method of getting this configuration (at lease most of it). I am logged into the cluster, and I try to run the config dump command, but the output is:

"config dump" is not supported.

I have searched this message board and scoured the internet. I can't seem to find anyone who is having this issue. I checked the licensing, and it doesn't appear that this is a license specific feature - at least as far as I can tell.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Thank you!

Confused about IOPs statistics in Harvest

$

I am not sure if this is the right board to post. But I have recently stood up a Harvest/Grafana environment via NABox and I have a question about how it reports on the IOPS statistics.

For example, if I look at the "NetApp Detail: Volume" dashboard, there is a statistic for Top Average IOPs. Over a 2-day period, one of my volumes is reporting a max IOPs of 218. If I change the reporting period to 7 Days, the same volume now shows a max IOPs of 105.

How is this possible? Am I misreading this statistic? And if so,  what statistic do I grab if I want to know what the max IOPs was on that volume, during that period?

Running a reallocate after disk shelf add

I added a disk shelf and expanded a data aggregate.  Running a reallocate start -f  -p /vol/vol01. It is running but I would like to

quiesce and restart at a later time. Ran reallocate quiesce /vol/vol01.  The command ran and did not return anything.  Its been a few hours and the it still shows a status of Running after running reallocate status -instance.  Does it significant time to quiesce? What should I expect at this point? The reason I am trying to quiesce is to delete some volume snapshots in an attempt to speed up the reallocate. How do you suggest I proceed?

Thanks-

ONTAP 9.1 support for FAS32xx

$

Hello,

I am looking to upgrade from 8.3.1 to 9.1.x.

I was looking into the supported hardware that 9.1 will run on and FAS32xx series is shown, however, I noticed that the FAS3240 doesn't have a link to download 9.1. The FAS3250, however, does show an download link for 9.1.

What's not supported on the 3240 series to allow this to be upgraded? I have other FAS that can upgrade, however, my 3240 has some snapmirror relationships that I need to address if I cannot upgrade to the 9.1.x release.

Was there any information available on the destroyed aggr?

mirrored aggregates

Hi Gurus,

I have a NetApp v-series environment (v3240) and backend disks(LUNS) coming from a connected HP EVA.  Aggregates are mirrored as you can see below and now running out of storage capacity on EVA and like to get rid of mirrored Aggrs and use that space for new volumes. Is it possible to convert a mirrored aggregate to a non-mirrored aggregate (ie deleting the other plex) online (with out causing any disruption to production users). Please advise.

Hi,

Ontap 7-mode 8.2.4P6, df says volume is full. When dedupe savings are checked it says 44% saved, but not reflected in df o/p. Could any one point out what is the reason for this. There are many snapshopts on this volume as old as 40 days.

PDU's maintenance.

DataCenter maintenance,

one side of PDU's at a time needs to be disconnected. I understand power sources are redundant on each filers.

But,

What steps (commands) I need to perform to make sure they are redundant and working fine?

What steps need to make sure after the maintenance?
In case of both sides got disconnected at the same time by accident, would the filer shut down immediately?

Thank you!
