Hi,

we are trying to deploy a 2 nodes Ontap Select cluster and it failed with this error :

ONTAPClusterCreateJoinOperationFailed: ONTAP cluster create failed during cluster join operation on cluster "ontap". Reason: Failed to create Default Broadcast domain. Timeout: Operation "vifmgr_broadcast_domain_perform_cluster_create_iterator::create_imp()" took longer than 25 seconds to complete [from mgwd on node "ontap-01" (VSID: -3) to vifmgr at 127.0.0.1].

Any idea?

Automatically encrypt all volume setting?

Is there a setting that allows all new volumes to be encrypted? Like a global setting that allows me to switch it on, rather than ensuring that each new volume has the    -encrypted true  attribute appended to the end of every volume create command?

Thanks

Long NFS mount delays on RHEL 7.6

$

Our environment had a new issue introduced with servers we've upgraded from RHEL 7.5 to RHEL 7.6.

IF the server meets the condition where there are no current NFS mounts to our FAS, the following delays occur:

  1. 45 second delay when mounting a share that is NFS 4.0/4.1 with sec=sys
  2. 90 second delay when mounting a share that is NFS 4.0/4.1 with sec=krb5,krb5i,krb5p
  3. No effect on NFS 3 mounts

Can be reproduced on 7.6 servers, but doesn't occur with 7.5 or our 6.x servers.

Anyone else able to reproduce such behavior?

Vol size not showing size increased

Hi,

from the below output if you see i have created the vol called vol_test with size of 20MB.. After that i have increased to +2028M which is total vol size is 2048M. After i increased to 2048M could see the difference in total capacity & available capacity as total capacity showing 2GB where available capacity showing 1GB.

I wanted to know why the available capacity is not taken with full amount of 2GB.?

Federation or live migration

Hello,

Even though netapp has a way to migrate from any platform to any platform using snapmirror it’s not total non disruptive . Even though the disruption is for few sec/min it’s still disruption. Even if we join the nodes into the cluster and vol move without disruption we can’t split the cluster with both clusters serving data for different clients. Is NetApp working on any new technology that would solve this challenge?

Hi all.

I'm studying FAS Series and Clusters ONTAP. and Now i have some few questions about <volume status -v> options.

I searched for the roles of these options but could not be searched. So I want to know what these options do.

Where can i found about these options though? Plaese answer me if you have some files about this options.

40TB volume with snapmirror ON

Hi Admins,

We have a 40TB NetApp Volume which has LUNs provisioned out of it. This volume is exclusively being used for LUNs. To protect the LUN data, we have configured snapmirror of this volume and it is getting replicated to DR fine. The snapmirror transfer schedule starts daily at 5PM.

Recently we noticed that the snapmirror is not updating the volume and the LAG shows 70 days also a detail error in the message window shows (CSM: An operation did not complete within the specified timeout window.))

Since we are running out of space on the volume, am thinking if we can delete both the snapshots ?. Even if we delete the two snapshots and enable snapmirror - What will happen ?

Troubleshooting with tcp_client

$

So, I have a node from one of our CDOT 9.1 clusters that all of a sudden can no longer reach the mail relay to send autosupport emails. I've checked DNS, IP routes, traceroute etc - all good - nothing has been changed on the filer,  the partner node still sends emails fine.

"you'll need to try a telnet to port 25 mate - can't help otherwise" they say...

TELNET? if only we had something that easy!

Wait - tcp_client - that used to work in 7-mode...

Yes - set diag mode, ensure diag user is unlocked, connected to node shell and set diag mode here.

Issued command and got an bind error:

tcp_client 4 <source IP for e0M> 25 <mail relay IP address> 25 -c 1 -s 1024

bind failed: Can't assign requested address

I've tried every IP allocated to this node of the cluster - same error.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I'm doing wrong or an alternative to troubleshooting open port connectivity from a pesky filer node?

Changed IP, now node down

Changed IP on cluster node and can no longer ping. On Command states nodes are down. When i run the ping command i get the following error: RPC couldnt make connection.

Do i need to reboot the controllers?

Hi,

Could some one help me on this. We are planning to upgrade our OnTap 9.1 p7 to 9.3. during the image validation, I got the below warning. Could you please let me know if we remove the mentioned MAC algoritham from the existing setup, will it cause any issue, post upgrdate.

Openssh 7.2 upgrade   Warning    Warning: "hmac-ripemd160" and

precheck                         "hmac-ripemd160-etm" are considered weak

(HMAC) algorithms and support for the same

will be removed after upgrading to Data

Action: Before retrying the upgrade, remove

the above weak algorithms using "security

configured with one or both the above HMAC

                                 algorithms, run "security ssh show

OCUM (OnCommand Unified Manager) 9.4 API & Web services integration with SNOW (Service NOW)

$

Hello All,

In my organisation, NetApp OCUM events and alerts are converted into SNOW incident tickets through OCUM triggered emails. And, this is not very effective method as the SNOW (service now) never come to know about the events/alerts status change, thereby a manual efforts for the closing the tickets. So, we wanted to find the way to integrate SNOW with OCUM server API & Web services. This should create auto creation of incident tickets and if possible close the incident tickets if the events/alerts no longer valid.

Goal: To integrate the OCUM events with SNOW for auto incident creation and closer. In other words, NetApp OnCommand Unified Manager API & Web services integration with SNOW tool.

So far, we know followings but don't know the HOW part:

  • NetApp has confirmed that OCUM Web Services and API integration available.
  • Parsing of unique parameters for ServiceNow is possible per NetApp support communication.

Current Challenge:

How to configure/access SNOW to NetApp OCUM 9.4 API and web services?

How to parse NetApp OCUM 9.4 web services and API unique parameters to  SNOW (ServiceNow)?

Can anyone tell me how to achieve this? or has anyone implemented this in his/her environment? I would appreciate if you can provide me how-tos or some URL to achieve this. Specially with written procedures if available.

Thanks much!

Shashi

Hi experts

We plan to create one cluster with two HA pairs, each pair has two nodes, the cluster provide nas service only(nfs ).

Is it ok to realize HA that  one ha pairs fails (two node in the pair fail), there is no problem with client nfs access.

If it is , how to config HA?

Hiya,

Im creating Dynamic Home directories for Windows.

My share is %w and my relative path is %w.

My search path is /mycif, so under this directory I've create 3 user folders; Administrrator, Dave, Sam.

Then in Windows I used the format \\vserver\username

It works for the Administrator(finds the already created folder)

But for the other 2 users it says the directory cannot be found.

Any Ideas?

Swap ports within a LACP group

I am going to swap a couple of ports among 4 ports in a LACP group for better connecting to switches.

I would like to confirm with Experts, all I need to do is just to swap cables without the need to change any configurations becaus all configurations should be staying in the same.

Correct?
Are there any commands to "rescan" ports/LACP to refresh the change?

ONTAP 9.1 support for FAS32xx

$

Hello,

I am looking to upgrade from 8.3.1 to 9.1.x.

I was looking into the supported hardware that 9.1 will run on and FAS32xx series is shown, however, I noticed that the FAS3240 doesn't have a link to download 9.1. The FAS3250, however, does show an download link for 9.1.

What's not supported on the 3240 series to allow this to be upgraded? I have other FAS that can upgrade, however, my 3240 has some snapmirror relationships that I need to address if I cannot upgrade to the 9.1.x release.
