Hey all.

In the middle of an upgrade of new FAS2750 via the ONTAP manager web portal. Upgrade is from 9.12.1 P2 -> 9.14.1 P6.

The 1st node in the 2-node cluster could not be upgraded to 9.14.1 P6 while the 2nd one upgraded successfully.

Error indicated in the console:

cluster2::cluster image show-update-progress

cluster2-01

status: failed

error: Failed to migrate data LIFs from node "cluster2-01". Action Migrate all of the data LIFs using the "network interface migrate-all -node cluster2-01" command

cluster2-02

status: completed

Status: Paused - An error occurred in the "ONTAP updates" phase. The update cannot continue until the error has been resolved. Solve all issues, then use the "cluster image resume-update" command to resume the update.

Any help?

Understanding disk show Command: Why Are Physical and Usable Disk Sizes the Same for AFF Models but

$

Hello,

I’m seeking some clarification on the disk show command in NetApp ONTAP, specifically regarding the difference between physical and usable disk sizes across different NetApp models.

I’ve observed that on AFF (All Flash FAS) models, the  physical-size and usable-size values for disks are the same. However, on FAS (Fabric-Attached Storage) models, these values are different. Here are the details from the disk show command for both types of models:

AFF Model

netapp-c1::> disk show -fields physical-size,usable-size

disk physical-size usable-size
------ ------------- -----------

1.0.0 1.75TB 1.75TB
1.0.1 1.75TB 1.75TB
1.0.2 1.75TB 1.75TB
1.0.3 1.75TB 1.75TB
1.0.4 1.75TB 1.75TB
1.0.19 1.75TB 1.75TB
1.0.20 1.75TB 1.75TB
1.0.21 1.75TB 1.75TB
1.0.22 1.75TB 1.75TB
1.0.23 1.75TB 1.75TB
10 entries were displayed.

FAS Model

OnTapMulti::> disk show -fields physical-size,usable-size
disk physical-size usable-size
-------- ------------- -----------
NET-1.1 2.00TB 1.97TB
NET-1.2 68.00GB 66.93GB
NET-1.3 1023GB 1023GB
NET-1.4 1023GB 1023GB
NET-1.5 1023GB 1023GB
NET-1.6 1023GB 1023GB
NET-1.7 8.00GB 7.99GB
NET-1.8 8.00GB 7.99GB
NET-1.9 8.00GB 7.99GB
NET-1.10 8.00GB 7.99GB
10 entries were displayed.

Why are the   physical-size and usable-size values the same for AFF model disks but different for FAS model disks?

Thank You !

API error at the beginning of filer backups

$

We have been using snapdiff backups for our SVMs for years. We use IBM Storage Protect (latest version) and Data ONTAP 9.13.1.P7. The following messages keep appearing in the audit log of our cluster: 'Unable to find API: vfiler-list-info on data vserver SVM_xxx'. The message always appears when the backup of a filer volume starts. When we search for the error, we only ever find very old references to 7-mode. Is there a way to deactivate the message under ONTAP?

Changing controller identifier

Good Morning all,

I feel like this problem is easily solved but im not sure about how to go about it the best way, or if im just overthinking it. Basically im building a new AFF-A150, and during the initial setup process I accidentally began with Controller B instead of Controller A, which made Controller B my "clustername-01" node. This isn't really a big deal but for the sake of uniformity across all my NetApp systems (all 2 node systems) i've wanted my clustername-01 node to be controller A and clustername-02 to be controller B. Would this be as easy as changing the LIF names for my 4 cluster SVM LIFS and 2 node management LIFS or is this something else I would need to do?

ONTAP Select - Host w/ 2x 25GbE ports

Hello!

ONTAP Select docs (https://docs.netapp.com/us-en/ontap-select/concept_nw_vsphere_vswitch_config.html) states that for a deployment of a 2-node OTS cluster in 25GbE 2-port hosts.. we should use active-active NIC teaming:

pedro_rocha_0-1721137816331.png

But also, there's a table describing active/standby teaming:

pedro_rocha_1-1721137850241.png

So, I guess we should use active/standby and the above picture is wrong (active-active should be replaced by active-standy). Does it make sense?

Kind regards,

Pedro

SVM for different SRM protection groups

We have five applications, each on its own datastore and SRM protection group.

Do you need to create five separate SVMs for the five applications, or is one enough?

What does NetApp recommend?

How do I create a role for (HTTPS) access to a specific SVM?

$

Dear Community,

We would like to set up a separate role for our trainees on our cluster. This role should

- Enable read-only access to the entire cluster

- Complete access to a dedicated Test_SVM that is available for training purposes

It is often said, that this is not possible for a specific SVM, but there is even a KB article that can serve as a basis for this ("How to set up and configure RBAC in ONTAP to limit administrator access to specific volumes or SVMs" From <https://kb.netapp.com/on-prem/ontap/Ontap_OS/OS-KBs/How_to_set_up_and_configure_RBAC_in_ONTAP_to_limit_administrator_access_to_specific_volumes_or_SVMs#>)

The problem with this, however, is that when creating the role for ’-cmddirname DEFAULT -access readonly’ for the special Test_SVM “readonly” is not possible, but “none” is always suggested:

FASxxxxx::> security login role create role -role Restricted_Azubi_Role -cmddirname DEFAULT -access readonly -query ‘’ -vserver SVM_TESTxxxxx

Error: command failed: The only valid value for access is ‘none’ for a Vserver role when the specified command directory is ‘DEFAULT’

FAS27501::>

What am I doing wrong? Any ideas?

Many thanks and best regards

Fabric Pool : rename C3 destination SVM

$

Hi All,

My customer needs to rename all his Ontap clusters and also svm as there have a reference to cluster's name.

Ha has a A400 metro cluster with Fabric Pool and the destination S3  buckets are on FAS2720.

Actually we have

::> storage aggregate object-store config  show -instance
Name Server Container Name Provider Type Ipspace
--------------- -------------------- -------------- ------------- -------------
NetApp1-S3-PROD-1   NetApp1-S3-PROD.xxx.fr   netapp1-s3-prod-1-bucket-netapp1 ONTAP_S3 Default

The svm NetApp1-S3-PROD  needs to be renamed  to  DELTA-S3 and its name in DNS needs to be changed too.
At the same time the object's name and Container's name need to be changed to refalect the new name.

How can we do these changes  without any trouble ?

ONTAP Select - node network ports

Hello!

Is it possible to add network ports (virtual) to an OTS cluster?

I know that there are predefined ports and roles for each: e0a, e0b, e0c, e0d,  e0e,  e0f, e0g.

For example, can I add another virtual nic and make it e0h for example?

Use case. I have a situation where 4 DATA portgroups are needed. We only have e0a and e0b as data network ports for a given node in an OTS cluster.

Regards,

Pedro

Change the type of a disk

Hello everyone.

I ama new on netapp. On our netapp one disk have failed and took his place the spare disk. After almost 2 week the new disk has arrive and change the broken disk with the new one. On the web gui we show the alert one disk in unassign and so we assign the to the A node. At this time before the replace all the disks are shared so i believed the new disk will be assign as spare because all the disk before the replace was share. But no the new disk is not spared and is shared so know we have 12 shared disks and 0 spares. How i can make the new disk (bay 5) spare?

Nblade.NfsRaidError

Community

We had a glitch in the cluster network which took two S3 buckets offline for a minute. After that, we started to see some "Nblade.NfsRaidError" and "wafl.raid.incons.userdata" in the event logs. Our environment uses NFSv3 (no SAN).  I have seen the KBs about "How to clear Inconsistent User Data Block errors", however I am mostly looking to assess the impact and corrective measures.

Note: About the Nblade.NfsRaidError, I  have more than 200 + lines of logs

Automatically resizing a large amount of flex vols after manual deletion of data

$

Hello, I have to resize about 400 flexvols, having partially deleted old data.

My target is to resize exactly to 97% of used space.

Having done the job before on few volumes I used to resize it manually.

Now I'm trying to autoresize volumes using volume options

            space-nearly-full-threshold-percent
            space-full-threshold-percent
            autosize-grow-threshold-percent
            autosize-shrink-threshold-percent

but I can't get the volume autosized.

Maybe I specified wrong values for the above options, can you help me on how to set them to achieve the 97% of used space?

Thank you,

Fabrizio

Native fpolicy questions

Hello all,

Ontap 9.13.1

After enabling native fpolicy we encountered some quiestions:

1) How do we modify the disallowed extensions file. The current kb is a bit unclear about that.

2) After modifying the above file, how do we make sure this is the version used on all enabled svms.

3) What is the path of the original disallowed extensions file?

should we disable the vscan mandatory on

$

"mandatory on" feature on VSCAN caused us a few time share access accidents when we lost connections to both scanners.

just wonder if we can safely disable it, or we have other work around?

believe we should scan the files on "write", by default, we have scan on "read", we have NAS replication in place,  not sure this type of replication read traffic will trigger the scan activities?

is the scan server talking to cluster with certificate? we lost connections to scan server when we had certificate issue.

Creating User Roles for Read-Only Access?

$

Hello All,

I have a task per a 3rd party vendor to give read-only access to a user and create a set of roles. Now some of these roles when you apply say a few things. Some say "command failed: invalid operation", others say "command failed: a Vserver admin cannot use command directory "cluster" with access level "read-only" use different access level".

Does anyone know of a proper document that show all of the cluster vs. svm level commands available?

Save Volume Usage in a Graphical Format

I want to start saving historical data usage for an NFS volume,  shown in a graphical format, and which can also be automatically updated daily. I was wondering if anyone has a setup like this - whether it's exporting to Excel, a Database, PowerBI, etc.

I would sure appreciate any advice or suggestions.

Thank you in advance!

Snapmirror History 6 months

I have been asked to provide a report of the last 6 months of successful snapmirror replications for a single relationship. The snapmirror show-history command only provides the last 24hrs and Unified Manager doesn't provide reports on successful/failed replications...only lag time and the amount transferred. Is there a way to get the information I have been asked to produce?

Adding NLF file to a system already have 28 characters license

$

I’ve a question regarding changing the licensee. I’ve a system that has the legacy 28 characters license for the core bundle. It’s used for NFS and CIFS in a 2 nodes cluster.

Now, we have got ONTAP One license file to have the other features like SnapMirror, …etc.

My question is, I will have to delete the old license keys for one node, upload the new NLF to that node, then I’ll delete the old license keys for the second node, upload the new NLF for this one.

Does this procedure have any disruption?

Is performing takeover/giveback necessary?
