How to check live volume for migration

$

Hello.
We are planning to migrate from A200 equipment using 9.4 os to new equipment.
Before that, there are more than 100 volumes created on the A200 equipment, but there is nothing organized about what the customer manager actually uses.
So I need to know what server uses volume
A customer representative has checked the ip from the net connections active show-client command, and it is said that there is a server that is actually in service, but the ip has not been extracted by the command.

statistics vol show, qos statistics vol performance show
It is possible to check volume performance with the command, but there may be volumes that generate IO when not monitored, so it will be difficult to check with that method.

Since version is 9.4, there is no volume usage record in GUI,
Is there a way to check other volume usage?
Due to the large number of servers, it is difficult for the person in charge to check the servers daily.

Disconnecting old OCUM

We recently placed in production a FAS 8300 (9.14.1P6).   Our OCUM version 7.2P1 looks  like its still working but we just a built a new server (new IP address) with the latest ActiveIQ Unified Manager 9.14.  Prior to connecting to the new NAS, all we have to do is just shutdown the own OCUM?

Note:  We had a FAS2650, the migrator removed it out of the cluster after the migration was completed.  This is where the old OCUM was used.

Thanks,

SVHO

Deferral of ONTAPI (ZAPI) End-of-Availability Announcement (August2024) [CPC-00410]

Just dropping this here as I received it via email the other day...... I don't work for NetApp.

August 2024

CPC-00410

Deferral of ONTAPI (ZAPI) End-of-Availability Announcement

For your information and planning purposes, please be advised that there have been updates concerning the availability of certain NetApp® products. This notice is intended to inform you of the retraction of a previously announced end-of-availability for specific products.

NetApp ONTAPI (ZAPI) calls are NetApp’s proprietary APIs that are included with NetApp ONTAP® software to automate ONTAP data storage management tasks. Automation is a strategic imperative for most organizations. Today, organizations are looking to simplify, modernize, and standardize their approach to automation with industry-standard APIs. For this reason, NetApp decided to refocus on the REST (representational state transfer) API.

NetApp added support for an expansive REST API in the ONTAP 9.6 software release. Starting with ONTAP 9.7, new features and enhancements are available only through the ONTAP REST API for automation.

This correspondence is an update to our previous announcement from February 2023, which stated the end of availability (EOA) of ONTAPI (ZAPI) in January 2024. Upon reassessment and recognizing our customers' continued reliance on ONTAPI, we have decided to prolong offering ONTAPI. Consequently, the EOA for ONTAPI is now deferred until further communication.

Post upgrade to ONTAP versions 9.14 and beyond, ONTAPI (ZAPI) will stay active for 30 days. If no ONTAPI calls are detected during this timeframe, ONTAPI will be automatically disabled. However, it can be re-enabled if necessary, using a CLI command.

We would like to emphasize that to fully utilize the capabilities of ONTAP, we highly recommend transitioning to the ONTAP REST API. If you have any inquiries or concerns about the migration to the REST API, please contact ng-ontapi-queries@netapp.com.

For more comprehensive information, you can refer to the FAQ on the transition from ONTAPI (ZAPI) to ONTAP REST API.

For information about ONTAP support plans, refer to the Software Version Support page.

API transition managed internally with NetApp modules for Ansible and the ONTAP PowerShell Toolkit
For customers who have automated using Ansible modules for NetApp and the NetApp ONTAP PowerShell Toolkit, the transition from ONTAPI (ZAPI) to the ONTAP REST API will be handled internally by these two automation tools. Beginning with ONTAP 9.12.1, Ansible-certified NetApp automation modules and the ONTAP PowerShell Toolkit will use ONTAPI or the ONTAP REST API according to underlying ONTAP version.

Resources to transform existing ONTAPI-based automation
The ONTAP REST API section of the NetApp Developer Network provides resources and documentation for the ONTAP REST API, including the ONTAP Python client library. To help identify which REST endpoint to use in place of an existing ONTAPI call, see ONTAPI to REST API mapping information.

NetApp strives for an ONTAP REST API that enables you to successfully modernize your automated processes as you transition from ONTAPI to REST. If you identify ONTAPI calls or parameters required by your automation processes that are not currently supported by the ONTAP REST API, submit requests by using the ONTAPI to ONTAP REST API gaps form.

NetApp support policies after EOA
NetApp announces EOA dates for hardware and software products as the products progress through their lifecycles. EOA is defined as the last date on which a product will be available for quoting from NetApp’s price list. End of support is defined as the last date on which NetApp will provide support for that product. To protect customers’ investments in these products, NetApp is committed to continuing support for contract customers for a period of time after NetApp announces EOA.

Continuation of hardware support
For all equipment that is under a hardware contract, NetApp will continue to repair or replace field-replaceable units for a period of 5 years from the EOA date for each hardware product. NetApp will continue to offer for sale new current or functionally equivalent network interface cards and host bus adapters for EOA systems for a period of at least 1 year after the system EOA date, based on availability. NetApp reserves the right to substitute functionally equivalent systems and peripherals that might possibly require a software upgrade.

Connecting ActiveIQ Unified Manager to ONTAP cluster

We recently placed in production a FAS 8300 (9.14.1P6).  We had a FAS2650 for seven years.   We built a Windows 2019 with ActiveIQ Unified Manager 9.14.   When we first tried  to add the ONTAP to the Unified Manager, it told us the self signed cert has already been expired.  We followed the instructions below

https://kb.netapp.com/on-prem/ontap/DM/System_Manager/SM-KBs/How_to_renew_an_ONTAP_selfsigned_certificate_via_System_Manager

Under the client/server certificates tab, we renewed the self signed cert for the expired SVM self signed cert in which we got a new self signed cert with a new name.  Then we deleted the original self signed cert (SVM).  Then we did the same and renewed the cert for the cluster but we didn't remove the expired self signed cert (cluster).

We went through the process again to add the ONTAP cluster but it would just hang forever with the spinning circle.

We have a few questions as a result of this process.

   1) The renewal of the certs does not affect users access on CIFS shares?

  2) How do we fix the issue described above (trying to add ONTAP onto ActiveIQ Unified Manager).

Syslog Interface for cluster log-forwarding

$

Hi,

all my clusters are sending their syslogs via their node_mgmt interfaces, except for one. In this one (2-node cluster) one node sends via node_mgmt and the other via cluster_mgmt.

Because of how my company validates the syslog sources, I need all my syslogs to come from the node_mgmt interfaces, but there's no way to force it to.

Why is one cluster behaving like this? When I migrate the cluster_mgmt-interface to the other node, this node stops sending through the node_mgmt and cluster_mgmt takes over.

I'm confused.

Cheers,

We have an old box needed to migrate to new box.

The new box is running on ontap 9.13. Old is 8.3,

REPGENGNA::security login> password -vserver REPGENGNA1_SVM -username XXXXXXX

Enter a new password:
Enter it again:

Error: command failed: Password cannot contain the username.

How can we temporary disable this password check ?

We tried the following but it does not work.
vserver cifs security modify -vserver REPGENGNA1_SVM -is-password-complexity-required false

Replace manually a broken disk with a spare one

Hello,

Since this Monday, I've had two discs fall into failed state. One was automatically replaced by one of the spare disks, but the other was not. For information, my aggregate is made up of 7200RPM disks.

I actually had 3 spare disks:
- 1 x 7200RPM (the one that replaced the failed disk)
- 2 x 15000RPM (which don't automatically launch the replacement)

I guess the replacement doesn't start automatically because the disks have different specifications (I understand that and I'm quite okay with it).

However, I'd like to force the disk replacement even if the spare disk is faster.

Most of the disks have been running for as long as the disks that failed, and I'd like to minimize the chances of ending up with 3 failed disks (and then the drama...).

My failed aggregate:

Position Disk Pool Type RPM Size Size Status

transfer Files CIFS/SMB from old storage (HPE 3PAR) to new Netapp AFF

We have about 70 TB of files that we want to transfer from the old storage HPE 3PAR to AFF.

Is there a way to transfer these files?  In addition, can I transfer these files while the user has these files open? Is there any impact on data transfer? Is this type of transfer not allowed?

FAS2820 ONTAP 9.14 maximize data aggregate sizing

$

Hello.

We have a FAS2820 HA pair with 12 internal drives + 36 external drives (4TB NLSAS drives).

We are trying to figure out the best approach to maximize the available size of the aggregates in a symmetric configuration.

The internal shelf (12 drives) is using ADP.

Root aggregates have 5 ADP root partitions (1 raid group using RAID_DP).

Our main concern is whether we can create 2 data aggregates (1 per node) with the following config (would leave 4 entire drives as spare and 2 partitioned drives also):

- rg0: 16 entire disks (RAID_DP > 14 data drives + 2 parity drives)

- rg1: 5 data partitions (RAID _DP > 2 parity partitions + 3 data partitions)

I wonder if we will break any best practices if we create this aggregate layout.

Any help is appreciated.

Best regards.

NetApp NFS Plug-in for VMware VAAI 2.0.1 for ESXi 8.0u3

$

Hello,

Upon reviewing the VAAI release notes, it appears that all versions of ESXi 8.x are supported.
https://library.netapp.com/ecm/ecm_download_file/ECMLP2875174

NfsPlugin2.0.1
Plugin Name - NETAPPNASPLUGINV2.0.1.zip
Supported Platform - ESXi 7.* and ESXi 8.*

When checking the Interoperability Matrix Tool, ESXi 8.0u3 is not listed as a supported version.
Is it correct to assume that this is simply because ESXi 8.0u3 was only recently released and the Interoperability Matrix Tool has not yet been updated?
Since ESXi 8.0u2 was released on September 21, 2023, and the VAAI release date is July 5, 2023, is it correct to understand that VAAI supports the entire ESXi 8.x series without requiring an update?

Thank you in advance !

File timestamp issues for sequence file creation on FlexGroup

We have File timestamp issues for sequence file creation on FlexGroup.

While I create batch files sequentially,  the file creation time is not fully orderly. It brings our R&D job failed on FlexGroup, and we have to move the job back to FlexVol .

I wonder why the file timestamp does not match the logical sequence of file creation on FlexGroupbut does on FlexVol

What should I do if I want to keep using FG?

audit logs ocum - disable audit infos

We have an Ontap Select cluster that is monitored via AIQUM. The cluster contains Snaplock volumes (Enterprise). The same message appears in the audit log every 15 minutes for each of the Snaplock volumes.

Is there a way to deactivate the messages? The audit logs are written to a syslog server, which fills up pretty quickly.

I have already tried making adjustments to the security audit settings, but that didn't help.

proper way to disable a port in order to replace SFP

Hi,

we have a FAS2552 (Single Chassis switchless clustered). we need to replace the SFP in the port e0c/0c (it's still up and working but having events "FC target adapter 0c reports that it is receiving (RX) and transmit (TX) at a low level of power". Since the port is shared by both ethernet port e0c and FCoE port 0c. Also, e0c is one of the member of if-group. I don't know what is the proper way to shut down the port before I replace the SFP.  Can someone help, please

Thanks very much

SnapMirror Copying But Not accessible?

$

Hello!  I'm still relatively new to multi-cluster NAS management and SnapMirror, so please be gentle 🙂

I have NAS1 and NAS2, both are running NetApp Release 9.11.1P10.

on NAS1, I have an SVM called Backup and a volume called BackupVol.  I'm trying to snapMirror the data to NAS2's Backup_mirror SVM to a volume called vol_backup.  On NAS2/vol_backup, I can see that snapshots are being created.

--NAS1/Backup/BackupVol - SnapMirror (Local or Remote) is showing the relationship, Healthy and Mirrored

--NAS2/Backup_mirror/vol_backup - SnapMirror (Local or Remote) is showing nothing

--NAS2/Backup_mirror/vol_backup - Snapshot Copies is showing snapshots

The problem I'm having is accessing the data on NAS2.  when I try to NFS mount the volume Backup_mirror\vol_backup, I'm told there's no matching directory.  I can mount Backup_mirror\ successfully, so it's not an exportfs issue (I think), but I'm not seeing data.

Am I missing a step or a concept somewhere?

Thanks!

hi   team

I am encountering an issue while using the lab for learning. When I utilize the S3 browser to connect to the bucket I created, I can successfully establish a connection via HTTP on port 80; however, I am unable to connect through the TLS port 443. What steps should I take to successfully connect to the bucket using TLS on port 443?
